The Contractor must submit his plan for testing to the Engineer for review at least five (5) <br />working days before starting the test The Contractor shall remove and adequately <br />r dispose of all blocking material and equipment after completion and acceptance of the <br />field hydrostatic test, unless otherwise directed by the Engineer. Any damage to the <br />pipe coating shall be repaired by the Contractor. Lines shall be totally free and clean <br />r prior to final acceptance. <br />5. The Engineer or the Engineer's representative must be present during testing. <br />6. No thrust blocks shall be backfilled until inspected by IRCDUS inspectors. <br />7. Before the pressure testing of new pipelines against existing Indian River County valves <br />can commence, the lines shall be properly chlorinated, sampled, and bacteriologically <br />approved. <br />W H. Disinfecting Potable Water Pipelines <br />1. Before being placed in service, all potable water pipelines shall be chlorinated in <br />we accordance with the latest AWWA C-651, "Standard Procedure for Disinfecting Water <br />Mains." The procedure shall be approved by the Engineer. The location of the <br />chlorination and sampling points will be as specified by the Florida Department of <br />r Environmental Protection, Water Distribution System Permit. Taps for chlorination and <br />sampling shall be uncovered and balled by the Contractor, as required. <br />2. The general procedure for chlorination shall be first to flush all dirty or discolored water <br />from the lines, and then introduce chlorine in approved dosages in accordance with <br />Table 1-1 through a tap at one end, while water is being withdrawn at the other end of <br />the line. The chlorine solution shall remain in the pipeline for no less than 24 hours. <br />r <br />3. Following the chlorination period, all treated water shall be flushed form the lines at their <br />extremities and replaced with water from the distribution system. Bacteriological <br />+. sampling and analysis of the replacement water shall then be made by the Engineer in <br />full accordance with the AWWA Manual M23. The Contractor will be required to re - <br />chlorinate, if necessary. The line shall not be placed in service until the requirements of <br />the State and County Environmental Health Department are met. <br />4. Special disinfection procedures shall be used in connections to existing mains, and <br />where the method outlined above is not practical. <br />5. The Contractor shall make all arrangements necessary with an independent commercial <br />laboratory approved by the Department of Health & Rehabilitative Services (HRS) for <br />r the collection and examination of samples of water from disinfected water mains. <br />These samples shall be examined for compliance with HRS requirements. Sampling <br />shall be made daily and continuously until two (2) successive examinations are found <br />satisfactory. Should three examinations be found unsatisfactory, the line shall be <br />flushed and disinfected again. Certified copies of all laboratory analysis shall be <br />provided to the Owner. The cost of all sampling, flushing, and disinfecting shall be <br />included in the contract price, and no additional charge shall be made to the Owner for <br />this work. County personnel shall operate all valves and be present to determine and <br />control the volume of water used for flushing. <br />
