for "Stan Mayfield Memorial Highway "
Resolution
WHEREAS, on September 30th 2008, the Indian River County community lost a
great friend and public servant who represented us with honor, genuineness and
integrity; and
WHEREAS, Our neighbor and fellow businessman, Stan Mayfield, was first elected
to the Florida House of Representatives in 2000 and served in that capacity until the
time of his death ; and
WHEREAS, Stan's leadership and commitment to our entire community helped
facilitate communication about the importance of Indian River County issues being
heard and responded to in our state government in Tallahassee; and
WHEREAS, Stan was a loyal advocate for our county, carrying our message on
local issues and needs to Tallahassee and the floor of the House of Representatives to
help leverage funding and initiatives; and
WHEREAS, Stan
• Fought to lower property taxes and reform insurance to make
homeownership more affordable.
• Advocated for Indian River County during hurricane recovery efforts.
• Supported the Sebastian working waterfront initiative resulting in The Stan
Mayfield Working Waterfronts Program created to acquire land for the
purpose of commercial fishing operations or educational, cultural, and
historic purposes connected with aquaculture,
• Sponsored a ban on wastewater dumping to protect our coastline and Indian
River Lagoon and spearheaded an $ 18.6 million dredging project in the St.
Sebastian River.
• Championed the State Route 60 widening project in the western part of our
Indian River County.
• Supported legislation that enabled the establishment of a heart center to be
located in our community.
• Was a leader in the passage of sweeping reform energy legislation that
created a comprehensive energy bill for renewable, clean energy, reducing
dependence on foreign oil
• Voted to cut government spending in order to lower taxes.
NOW THEREFORE, in recognition of his friendship, tireless efforts and
accomplishments, the undersigned and those others who submit here their letters of
support recommend to our Indian River County State Delegation that State Route
60 from I-95 west to the Florida Turnpike should be named The Stan Mayfield
