Geotechnical, Environmental and Materials consultants June 1 , 2007 Proposal File No. 07-5544 Indian River County Engineering Division 1840 2Wh Street Vero Beach , Florida 32960 Attention: Mr. Mike Mezzina Subject: Proposal for Soil Permeability Testing 74"' Avenue from 4'h Street to 12th Street and 8'" Street from 66t' Avenue to 741h Avenue Indian River County, Florida Dear Mr. Mezzina As requested, we are pleased topresentthe following proposal forconducting soil permeability testing for the subject project. Based on information provided to us, we understand that the project includes stormwaterretention swales along portions of the subject, roadways. Shallow soil stratigraphy and permeability data and an estimate of the normal seasonal high groundwater table level are needed for the design of the swales . The following summarizes our proposed scope of work and associated fees for conducting the subject exploration. FIELD EXPLORATION As discussed, our field exploration program will consist of performing 19 auger borings to a depth of approximately 2 to 3 feet below the encountered groundwater table or to a maximum depth of 6 feet below ground surface, whichever is encountered first. The borings will be conducted using a 3-inch diameter hand (bucket) auger in the vicinity of the locations selected by the client. Each sample will be removed from the auger in the field and then examined and visually classified by our field personnel. Representative portions will be sealed and packaged for transportation to our laboratory for further analysis as required . Water level observations will be made in the boreholes during the drilling operation. In addition, a shallow test pit will be excavated by hand adjacent to each of the boring locations to a depth ranging from approximately 1 to 3 feet. At the bottom of the test pit, a 3-inch diameter Shelby tube sample of soil will be obtained in a vertical orientation for permeability testing in our laboratory. A second Shelby tube sample will also be obtained from the sidewall of each test pit in a horizontal orientation . The boreholes and test pits will be backfilled with excavated material upon completion of the field program . LABORATORY TESTING Routine laboratory visual classification will be performed along with specific classification tests deemed necessary ( i .e . , sieve analysis , Atterberg limits and organic contents ). Constant-head laboratory permeability tests will be performed on the Shelby tube samples obtained from the test pits. 460 Concourse Place NW, Unit 1 , Port St. Lucie, Florida 34986, Phone (772) 878-0072 FAX (772) 87&8097 Offices it Bartow. The data developed during the exploration will be submitted in a written report upon conclusion of the exploration. We will also provide an estimate of the normal seasonal high groundwater table level at the boring locations. COST ESTIMATE The costs associated with the aforementioned tasks are presented below.
