Re: FEDERAL GRANT FOR BIOMASS RESEARCH USING ALGAE FROM EGRET
MARSH REGIONAL STORMWATER PARK
Dear Dr. Frank,
This letter confirms Indian River County's participation in the proposal entitled, "Minimal -Input
Algal Fuel Production with Water Improvement Benefits" by Argonne National Laboratory,
HydroMentia Inc., University of Georgia, and Indian River County for DOE/USDA solicitation
number USDA-NIFA-9008-003347, under the federal Biomass Research and Development
Initiative Competitive Grants Program (BRDI). We understand that this project will seek to
establish key technical steps for algal feedstock production and conversion to sustainable fuels.
For this 4 -year project, Indian River County proposes the budget of $7,700 per year to cover the
supply of ATSTM algal turf plus the efforts of Mr. Keith McCully, P.E. Mr. McCully's efforts
will be limited to, on average, one hour per week (50 weeks per year) advising the proposal team.
The County is intrigued with the proposed work and supports its selection for funding- We -see
value in the technical goals it seeks, e.g., improving the economics and productivity of facilities
like ours to enable cleaning of our nation's waterways and production of sustainable fuels.
Sincerely,
Indian River County
