The Board of County Commissioners in and for Indian River county, Florida, met at the Court House in Nero Beach, at 10 o'clock A.M.Tu6sday, July 9th 1929, with the following members of the Board presents .Albert 0. Helseth, chairman; J.D.Yongue; J.V,,la3ruce; J.10.I1amilton and John H. Atkin. Also present were Miles barren, Clerk and Clark S. Rice, :�ieriff. The Notary Public bond of Jas J. Rick, in the sum of X500.00 with The American F)Urety Company, a corporation as surety was approved. A request signed by J.E.Dixon and U.B.Hourse, Trustees of Special :School Taxing District No. 14 (Fe llsmere) requesting the Board to levy not more than 15 mills tax for Interest & Sinking fund to pay interest on bonds outstanding and the retirement of bondee debt, instead of the amount certified by the school Board as necessary. After consider- able discussion it was ordered that not more than 15 mills will be levied for the year 1929 for such interest and sinking fund. SEAQ Miles Warren Clerk Circuit Court, The Board of County Commissioners then resolved themselves in to a Board of Equali- zers of taxes, in accordance with law, having previously been sitting as such Board, and after hearing such owners or agents of property make full and complete statements J 1 -1 1 1 1 221 as to the value of property owned or represented by them, it was decided that no increase in the valuations would be made. It was thereupon ordered that the Tax Assessor be and is hereby instructed to assess the property at the valuation -fixed by himself as Tax Assessor. The Tax books being ready to be returned to the lax Assessor for the purpose of extending the taxes thereon as provided by law the Board of County Commissioners took up the matter of making an estimate of the necessary expenses for the fiscal year, from October lst 1929 to the 30th day of (September 1930 and having considered the receipts estimated by the ulerk and the valuation -of the property of the County as shown by the assessment rolls prepared by the lax assessor and having given full consideration to the needs and necessities of the county and -the requirements for the different purposes to meet the expenses during the said fiscal year, have determined and do hereby declare the following to be the exPenses and all special and extra- ordinary expenses contemplated for the fiscal year next ensuing and for which the revenue for the year 1929 from -ad valorem taxation and the estimated receipts from, other sources will be available: T,., Salary Clerk as Clerk Board County Commissioners o-4 4 - . . .,$1840000 2. Such, valuation', being_, placed contingent upon taxes being paid t.' day in full. . 1 1 1 1 1 i 46 The hour of 2 o'clock P.M. having arrived, and in compliance with published notice that the Board would receive sealed bids for the construction of a permanent or tempor- ary jail bids were received and opened as follows: Southern Prison Company. San .Antonio, Texas Pauly Jail Building Co . , After, considerable discussion and after the Board had given careful consideration to each bid and the various and sundry propositions, on -motion made,seconded and carried it was ordered that the building of a 'jail be awarded to Pauly Jail Building Company to build and construct a jail canplete for the sum of 022,000.00 according to proposition 116. 2 plan #1091. It was ordered that the Clerk prepare notice that the Board would receive sealed bids for the acquisition of a lot suitable for jail purposes, and would receive such proposals up to 2 o'clock P .M.Saturday, July 27th 1929 for same. On motion made, seconded and carried the Board adjourned until Saturday, July 27th 1929 at 2 o'clock P.M.for the purpose of considering any and all proposals for a jail site. Saturday, July 27th, 1929, with the following members of the Board present: J.D.Yongue; J.J.P.Hamilton and John H..Atkin. The Chairman being absent, on motion made, seconded and carried, John It. Atkin, was named Th4=ary Chairman. The temporary Chairman announced the meeting was called for the purpose of receiving proposals for the acquisition of the jail site and/or Uourt House and jail site in accordance with published notice heretofore given. The proposals on file were opened and read as follows: Ralph Sedgwick and Lucy M.Baird: Dots 9 and 10 Uity Hall Block,Uity of Vero Beach 50x100 ft. for the sum of X4500.00 J.M.Knight: Any 5 acres of land in Braeburn Park, fres, provided Court Cou.se is erected thereon.
