Die Board of county Commissioners in and for Indian River County, Florida, met at the Court House in "Vero Beach, at 10 o'clock A.M.Tuesday, uctober lot 1929, with the following members of the Board present: Albert U. Helseth, Uhairman; J.D.Yongue; J.W.1aBruee J.J.P.Hamilton and John H.Atkin. also present were Miles Warren, Clerk and Clark S. Rice, ` eriff a The minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved. The County Nurse appeared before the Board and made report on various paupers in the County. it was ordered that bills incurred by the County Hurs.e in connect- ion with paupers be approved for payment and the recommendations made by her be accepted by the Board. Accordingly the following was placed on the pauper list: ROM BONDIOLI....... .....$10.00 J.R.ALIMH (increase)..... 5.00 Jas. T. Rick appeared before the Board regarding rents and the storage of equ ment of Lawrence Construction company's property in the Simonson warehouse. .after reading action previously taken by this Board the matter was dropped. The following resolution was offered by Commissioner Yongue, who moved its adoption, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton: WHMUM, J. M. Anight and associates have offered to donate to the County of Indian River a parcel of land to be used as a site for a county Jail and county Court House, and HEMS, the Board of County Commissioners of s aid County by resolution adopted on the 3rd day of September 1929, accepted said offer, and, *HEREAS, the sole consideration to said Knight and associates for the conve3tance of said property for the purpose aforesaid, is the promise and agreement of the Boars of County Commissioners of said County to erect a County jail and County Court House on said property as soon as it shall be deemed expedient and proper to erect such County buildings, BOW TAEREFORU9 be it resolved by the Board of County uommissidners of Indian River County, Florida, that in consideration of the conveyance of the said property the said County of Indian River as in said former resolution provided, this Board has and does hereby contract and agree to and with said J .H.Knight and associates to build a County Jail and County Court House on said property as soon as the erec- tion of such buildings shall be found to be expedient and proper. The resolution being put to a vote was unanimously adopted. A. 0. Greynolds appeared before the -board regarding contract for oiling roads is the County with A.O.Greynolds, Inc. , a corporation. It was moved, seconded and carried that the contract be terminated, the balance due be paid, and bond be released with the understanding in future any road oiling to be done the necessary contract will be made, in the nature of a re-newal of the now rescinded contract, at the then prevailing price for such work. I The bTotarg .blic bond of Uhas. P. Diamond, inthe sum of §500.00 with the American Surety Company, of New York, a corporation as surety was approved. Deed was received from Henry C. Siarpley, Trustee to the Board of County Com- missioners for County Jail and County Court House site. It, was ordered referred to the County attorney. Letter was received and read from Jas. T. Vocelle regarding salary as County - ttorney. it was moved by Commissioner Hamilton, ,seeonded by Commissioner Yongue that Mr. Vo celle be paid the salary for the month of September and not paid for the J 1 1 remainder of the year. Certified copy of resolution of the Board of Public Instructions requesting that the tax levy for interest & sinking funds for sipecial School Bistrict Ho. 11 be reduced from.. 23 mills to 15 mills was received and read. It was moved by Commissioner Hamilton seconded by Commissioner Atkin that the resolution be tabled until, the next meeting. County Agent w.E.Evans, filed his monthly report of activities. It was moved, seconded and carried that any foreman, overseer or other person in charge of aby public work under the direction and supervision of- the County be required to make full and complete report of any and all accidents occuring on the job, together with statement of physician, if any is called. This precaution being taken as a matter of protection to all parties. It was moved, seconded and varried that the bill of Redstone Lumber & %pply Co., a corporation, against the Road & Bridge rand for .57.79 be returned to them with advice that the County attorney advises it constitutes an unlawful claim against the County, and is unlawful to pay the same. %he Errors and insoljveneies report of the Uounty Tax Collector, for the year 1927 was received and carefully checked over, and found to be in order, same was approved by the Board by each member endorsing his name thereon. Said list shows a total of $2,415.32 .Mate taxes and a total of 024,971.06 County taxes. It was moved, seconded and carried that County Engineer construct in special goad & Bridge District No. 4, Two miles of road on Osceola Boulevard west of Vero Beach, an 18 foot penitration road instead of 9 foot rock road if the property owners agree to this change* tach work to be done when funds in the I)istrict are available. The wage scale for laborers on Road and Bridge work, as presented by the County Engineer was approved by the Board. The Tax Collector appeared before the Board requesting more room for his office. It was o rde red he be given room 13 and two adjoining rooms. Itvwas ordered the county* Engineer dispose of Ford Truck which is of no further use to the County. The several bills and accounts against the County having been audited, were examined and found to be correct, and same were duly approved by the Board of County Cormmissionerss and. warrants were ordered issued in settlement of same. The said warrants so issued in settlement of the bills and accounts beim listed completely in the County Finance Record as provided by law, and reference to. said County Finance Record is made a part of the minutes as fully and completely as if the said warrants were set out herein in detail The County vepositories filed their monthly statements showing receipts and dis- bureements, which having been checked were found to be correct.
