THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17th 1929.
The Board of County Commissioners in and for Indian River county, Florida, met at
the Court House in Vero Beach, at 10 o'clock A.It.Thursday, uctober 17th 1929, with the
following members of the Board present. Albert U. Helseth, chairman, J.D.Yongue,
J.Vd laBruee; a.,,T.P.Hamilton and John H. Atkin. .Also present were Miles Warren, Clerk
and Clark S. Ricep Sheriff,
The Notary Public bond of Ralph Sedgwick in the sum of -V500.00 with American
Surety Company, a corporation of New Yo rk as surety was approved.
r The Bills and accounts accrued against the .Road & Bridge fund for labor and mater-
ial, having been audited, were examined and found correct warrants were ordered issued
in settlement of same. The Varrants so issued being listed in the County Finance
Record as provided by law, and reference to said County finance record is made a part
of these minutes as fmlly and completely as if the said warrants were set out herein im
detail.
It was moved, seconded and carried that application be made to the Building and
Zoning Commission of the city of Vero South for permission and approval to erect a jai]
on the property acquired from J.M.hnight and associates.
waldo-E. Sexton appeared before the Board and requested the County to construct
a bridge over the canal at North end of Royal .dark Subdivision to the City, the bridge
having been washed away by the high waters recently.
It was moved, seconded and Carried that Commissioner Atkin arrange for the City tc
pay one half of the cost and the County to pay one half of some, and if this arrange-
ments can be made to instruct the County Engineer to construct the bridge.
It was moved, seconded and carried that L.B.Simmons be placed on the pauper list t
receive the sum of $25.00 per month until further orders, and he be sent to the Mag-
nolia Home, Lockhart, Florida, for attention and care.
'Sheriff Clark S. Rice appeared before the Board and requested §140.00 .to cover
expenses locating and bringing back for trial one Ocie. Lumley, charged with murder,
It was moved by Commissioner Yongue that sufficient money be appropriated for the
i.eriff to locate and bring back to justice Ocie Lumley. This motion was withdrawn.
It was moved by Commissioner Yongue that the Board's attorney look into the ques-
tion of authority to appropriate funds for purposes mentioned above and advise the
Board at its regular meeting in November.
It was moved, seconded and carried that Sheriff's criminal costs bills as submitte
be referred to the Counter attorney for approval. It was further ordered all criminal
cost bills of all officers be referred to the County Attorney five days before the
Board meets for his approval,
it was moved, seconded and carried that the Board meet on the first and third
Tuesdays of each month.
The Tax Assessor having completed the tax roll for the year 1929, and having the
same now before the County Commissionera, in regular session, together with two copies
thereof, as provided by law, and the same having been examined and approved by the
Board the following warrant was annexed to said tax roll, to -.wit:-

You are hereby commanded to collect out of the real estate and personal property
and from each of the persons and corporations named in the annexed roll, the taxes

cribed, and in cane taxes so imposed are not paid, at the time presoribed, by law,
you are to collect the same by levy and sale of the goods and chattels, lands and tene-
ments so assessed, or of the person or cprporation so taxed; and all sums collected for
the
state taxes you are
to pay to the State
Treasurer at such time as may be 'required
by
law, and at the same
time you are to pay
to the legally qualified
depository all
sums collected- for County taxes; and you are
further required
to make all
collections
on or before the first Monday in .April; and
on or before the
first Monday
in July you
will make a final report to and settlement with the comptroller and County Commissioners.

It was ordered that the County Engineer shape up dirt roads ' in the Fellemere
-district, same having become impaired by reason of recent heavy rains.
It was ordered the Clerk write the Farmers Bank of Vero Beach, that the Board will
expect 5% payment of balance due in bond fund of Special R do B Dist #4, on January 19
1930 and Wo each 34 days thereafter until fully paid, it was ordered that the Clerk
request the Bank to advise him by letter with reference to the matter in question.
it was ordered the clerk secure from each depository sufficient bonds to cover
deposits of the County and each 30 days same will be checked over and substitution made
if necessary.
It was ordered the Clerk write all parties who are indebted to Special Road &Bridge
District #1 and request payment on same, and to secure some statement from them as to
when the Board can expect final payment.
There being no further business on motion made, seconded and carried the Board
adjourned until the regular meeting to be held in November, unless sooner called toge-
ther by order of the Chairman.
