HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-084)L RESOLUTION 2006-084 RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN -RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR THE DESIGNATION OF PORTIONS OF STATE ROAD A1A,. U.S. HIGHWAY 1 AND COUNTY ROAD 512 AS PART OF THE INDIAN RIVER LAGOON SCENIC HIGHWAY CORRIDOR, SAID ROADS LYING IN THE UNINCORPORATED SECTION OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY. FLORIDA WHEREAS, as required by Florida Statutes, a Corridor Advocacy Group has been formed for the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway Corridor for the designation and implementation of a Florida Scenic Highway; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the scenic highway designation is to protect, enhance, preserve and maintain the intrinsic resources of the designated corridor, while utilizing these resources for appropriate economic development, recreation, and tourism; and WHEREAS, significant benefits of additional economic development, recreational amenities, resource conservation, aesthetic enhancement and public education can result from the scenic highway designation; and WHEREAS a Corridor Management Plan will be developed and implemented with the local governments of the jurisdictions through which the corridor passes, without state or federal restrictions on land use within the corridor by virtue of the designation. The Plan will delineate the implementation of the goals and objectives of the scenic highway program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA that: SECTION 1. The Board supports the addition of State Road A1A, U.S. Highway 1 and County Road 512 to the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway Corridor by the Florida Department of Transportation, said roads lying within the unincorporated limits of limits of Indian River County. SECTION 2. Be it further resolved that County staff under our jurisdiction is authorized and directed to participate in supporting the effort to add the portions of State Route A1A, U.S. Highway 1 and County Road 512 to the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway Corridor. SECTION 3. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 4. A copy of this resolution shall be spread upon the minutes and official records of Indian River County, and sent to the Florida Department of Transportation, Florida Department of Community Affairs, Indian River County and the Governor of the State of Florida.
