A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY,
FLORIDA, TO SUPPORT THE DREDGING AND
MAINTENANCE'TO COMPLETE THE NAVIGATION
CHANNEL CONNECTING THE INTRACOASTAL
WATERWAY TO THE SEBASTIAN INLET AND THE
ATLANTIC OCEAN.
WHEREAS, the Intracoastal Waterway extends for 23 miles
through Indian River County to the Sebastian Inlet at the northern county line
where the inlet provides the only waterway access to the Atlantic Ocean in the
county; and
WHEREAS, an analysis of the total economic value of maintained
Waterways in Indian River County demonstrated a significant annual economic
impact on business volume, personal income, jobs and over $724 million in
property values; and
WHEREAS, the Sebastian Inlet provides the opportunity for safe
passage and harbor and serves to stimulate the economy of Indian River County
as well as supports rich ecological diversity and quality of the Indian River
Lagoon System; and
WHEREAS, a deepened and widened, designated channel,
between the Intracoastal Waterway through Sebastian Inlet will protect adjacent
environmental resources, increase flushing of the Indian River Lagoon and
further the preservation and stimulation of the marine related economy while
providing enhanced boating safety.
RESOLUTION NO. 2005- 046
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE BOARD OF
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA:
Section 1. That the Indian River County Board of County
Commissioners supports the dredging and maintenance to complete the
navigation channel connecting the Intracoastal Waterway to the Sebastian Inlet
and the Atlantic Ocean.
Section 2. This I Resolution shall become effective immediately
upon adoption.
The resolution was moved for adoption by Commissioner Neuberger,
and the motion was seconded by Commissioner Wheeler , and, upon being
put to a vote, the vote was as follows:

The Chairman thereupon declared the resolution duly passed and
adopted this 3 rd_ day of May, 2005.
