EMERGENCY SERVICES DISTRICT
The Board of Commissioners of the Emergency Services District met at the
County Commission Chambers, 1801 27a' Street, Vero Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, April 15,
2008. Present were Chairman Sandra L. Bowden, Vice Chairman Wesley S. Davis, and
Commissioners Joseph E. Flescher, Peter D. O' Bryan, and Gary C. Wheeler. Also present were
County Administrator Joseph A. Baird, County Attorney William G. Collins II, and Deputy
Clerk Maureen Gelfo.
Chairman Bowden called the meeting to order at 3:14 p.m.
15.A. EMERGENCY SERVICES DISTRICT
1. ADDITIONAL STAFFING AT FIRE -RESCUE STATIONS G AND 11
In October 2007, the Board directed staff to increase the staffing levels at Fire -
Rescue Stations 6 and 11. Since that time, State mandated tax reforms caused staff to once again
seek Board instruction, and to present three options for Board approval.

MOTION WAS MADE by Commissioner Wheeler,
SECONDED by Commissioner O'Bryan, for discussion,
to approve Option 3, to direct staff to hire six fire -medics
to increase the staffing levels as previously approved.

A brief discussion ensued between the Commissioners and staff regarding the
importance of maintaining public safety, while balancing this year's tight budget.
The Chairman CALLED THE QUESTION and the
Motion carried unanimously. The Board unanimously
approved Option 3, directing staff to hire the remaining six
(6) fire -medics to increase the staffing levels as previously
approved, and as recommended in the memorandum of
April 8, 2008.
ALL BACKUP DOCUMENTATION IS ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD AND
IS HEREBY MADE A PART OF THESE MINUTES
There being no further business, on Motion duly made, seconded and carried, the
Board adjourned at 3:17 p.m.
