14.A.3. PURCHASE AGREEMENT FOR TWO REPLACEMENT FIRE
TRUCKS ON A SOLE SOURCE BASIS - PIERCE
MANUFACTURING, INC. (LAKE CO. CONTRACT #99-150)
Emergency Services Director John King explained that there are only two major
manufacturers for fire trucks. Pierce Manufacturing, Inc. is located in Wisconsin and he uses
them because they offer a better price and service. They have factory representatives throughout
the State of Florida and repairs are handled within 24 to 48 hours. The other manufacturer is
located in Ocala, Florida and he has heard that it is difficult to get service, let alone a return
phone call from them.
ON MOTION by Commissioner Lowther, SECONDED by
Commissioner Adams, the Board unanimously (4-0, Vice Chairman
Ginn was absent) approved the purchase agreement of one (1) Enforce
Pumper and one (1) Enforcer Aerial Ladder Truck on a sole source basis
from Pierce Manufacturing at a total price of $805,102, using the Lake
County Contract (Bid 99-150). Staff will return to the Board prior to
taking delivery of the two (2) replacement fire trucks to present another
agenda item detailing the best available financial package for the
lease/purchase agreement.
