TUESDAY,, JANUARY 6th 1931.
-The Board of County Commissioners in and for Indian River County, Florida, mete at
t ie Court Housea '• o� Beach, Florida, at 10 o'clock A.keTuesday, January 6th 19319
with the following members presenting their commissions from the Governor of Florida,
as such: J. D. Yongue, First District; J. W. LLB ruce, Second District; J. J. P. Hamil-
ton, Third District; Eli C. Walker, Fourth District and Albert 0. Helseth,.-Fifth
District. Also present were Miles Warren, Clerk and Clark S. Rice, Sheriff.
It was moved, seconded and carried that ,Albert 0. Heleeth, be named Chairman of
this Board until further orders.
C. P. Diamond was selected as Attorney for the Board at a salary of $40.00 per
month.
It was moved, seconded and carried that the County Nurse be dropped from the pay
roll. Upon being put to a vote the following voted: Yea: Com'rs. Walker, Yongue and
Hamilton. No. LaBruce and Helseth.
It was moved, seconded and carried that the County Agricultural Agent be dropped
from the pay roll of the County. Upon being put to a vote the following voted: Yea:
Rom'rs Walker, Yongue and Hamilton. No. truce and Helseth.
It was moved, seconded and carried that the Traffic Officer be discontinued.
Upon being put to a vote the following voted: Yea:, Com'rs. Walker, Yongue and Hamilton.
No. LaB ruce and Helseth.
State Attorney, Angus Sumner, appeared before- the Board regarding the jury list
to be selected for the year 1931.
It was moved, seconded and carried that Chas Kersey be named as Road Superintendent
at a salary of $-125..00 per month.
Moved, seconded and carried that the guar at the jail be set at $75.00 per month.
Moved, seconded and carried that the County Judge be paid the sum of $50.00 per.
month, -as judge of the Juvenile Court.
It was moved, seconded and carried that the Clerk be paid $100.00 as Clerk to this
Board and Auditor.

It was moved, seconded and carried that all Bridge Tenders salary be set at $75.,00
per month to be paid from the respective Bridge Districts.
It was moved, seconded and carried that the application for the Sheriff to use the
motorcycle and place the prz former Traffic Officer on duty on the highways out of the
Sheriff's office be refused.
The tom:;°ia~.ng. a,rri�ved for the opening of sealed bids for the purchase of gasoline
for the year 1931, the Clerk opened and read the several bids offered. After fairly
considering the several bids, it was moved, seconded and carried that the bid of :Stand-
a.rd Oil Company of Kentucky be accepted for 12 months at, a price of 2.e per gallon below
the tank wagon price and 30% discount on oils.
The County .Agricultural Agent filed his monthly report of activities.
The mother's Pension application of Daisy Neal Barker, Wabasso, having been
rejected for endorsement by the County Nurse, same was rejected by the Board.
It was ordered that the County Nurse car be delivered to the tool house, but in the
event the School Board desires to continue the Nurse to advise them that such Board will
have to compensate this Board for the value of the oar.
It vaas moved, seconded and carried that all scale of wages on Road department remain
the same as heretofore, except the Foreman to be paid 40X per hour and the machine
operatot at -a salary of $100.00 per month.

discontinuedandthe Speeder machineand drag line machinebeplaced in the barn until

It was ordered that the Road Superintendent petition off office at the barn and

The several bills and accounts against the County, having been audited, were examined,
and found correct, were approved, and warrants ordered issued in settlement of same.
The said bills and accounts being on file in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Cou ,
and the warrants so issued in settlement of same being listed in completely in the Count
' Finance Record, as provided by law, reference to such Finance record, and the list so
recorded, under the respective funds, being made a part of these minutes as fully and
completely as if the said warrants were set out herein in detail.

The County Depository filed its.mouthly.statements, showing the receipts and die-
bursements ofthe several funds, which having been audited, were found to be correct.
On motion made, seconded and carried the Board then adjourned until Tuesday,
January 20th 1931.

TUESDAY JANUARY 20th 1931.
The Board of County Commissioners in and for Indian River County, Florida, met at
the Court House in Vero Beach, on Tuesday, January 20th 19319 at 10 o'clock A.M.with
the following members of the Board presents Albert 0. Helseth, Chairman; J.D.Yongue;
J. W. LaBruce; J.J.P.Ramilton and Eli C Walker. Also present were Miles Warren, Clerk
and Clark S. Rice, Sheriff.
R�. Hardee, of Sebastian appeared before the Board regarding the road work on
road known as continuation of King's Highway Borth. The matter was taken under con-
sideration.
Mr. Nettles representing the Department of Agriculture appeared before the Board
respecting the County.Agricultural Agent. E. G. Thatcher also appeared regarding the
County Agricultural Agent. After considerable discussion, it was moved, seconded and
carried that the extension department of the State Agricultural department be advised
the County has withdrawn its appropriation for this work for the year 1931. Upon being
put to a vote the following voted: Yea: Talker, Hamilton and Yongue. No LaB ruce and
Helseth.
j Mrs Elizabeth Carleton appeared before the Board respecting the delinquent taxes
on" her property.
Mrs. Martin appeared requesting aid while her husband is being confined in jail to
serve a sentence for stealing chickens.
Otis M. Cobb, County Judge, appeared before the Board respecting the conditions
of children of Mrs Mary Laura Wood at Wabasso and requesting $20.00 now being given
to Mrs. Wood be given the children and they be placed in the mai Children's Home
Society of Jacksonville, Florida. It was ordered that the $20.00 per month now paid
Mrs. Wood out of the mother's Pension Fund be paid for the maintenance of these children
Clark S. Rice, .Sheriff appeared before the Board regarding the motorcycle officer
heretofore on duty, advising that during this month there had been 17 wrecks and two
persons killed on the highways. No action was taken.
Walter T. James appeared before the Doard respecting the request of the School
Board to permit Miss Bunkley to continue the use of car she has been using, for the
balance of the present school term. It was ordered that the car be turned over to the
School Board for their use for the remainder of this school year.
It was moved, seconded and carried that the motorcycle owned by the County be sold
to the Sheriff for $150.00.
It was ordered that warrant #762 dated Dec 2nd 1930 issued on the Publicity Fund
be cancelled.

W.R.Duncan, Tax assessor, filed his semi-annual statement of fees and commissions
