HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-118 W7(reso%consG)Vk RESOLUTION NO. 97-1 1 8 A RESOLUTION OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL REVISION COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA IN SUPPORT OF CLARIFYING THE OBLIGATION OF THE STATE TO PROVIDE ARTICLE V FUNDING FOR THE CRIMINAL COURT SYSTEM. WHEREAS, the Constitutional Revision Commission has invited comments from local governments and the public about ways to improve the Florida Constitution;and WHEREAS, Indian River County feels it would be fairer to all its taxpayers to have the language of the constitution amended to clarify that the obligation of funding the criminal justice system should be by the state and not by the counties; and WHEREAS, Indian River County feels that it should be constitutionally required that the state fund the criminal court system sufficiently; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board urges the Constitutional Revision Commission to recommend that the state constitution be amended to change the wording of Article V to require that the state be required to fund the criminal justice system. The resolution was moved for adoption by Commissioner Tippin, and the motion was seconded by Commissioner Ginn, and, upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: Chairman Carolyn K. Macht Absent Commissioner Caroline D.Ginn Aye Commissioner Fran B.Adams Aye The Chairman thereupon declared the resolution duly passed and adopted this 7th day of October, 1997.
