HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-128 9/97(ruoloomB)Vk RESOLUTION NO.97-128 A RESOLUTION OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA IN SUPPORT OF A CONSTITUTIONAL REVISION PRO- HIBITING UNFUNDED STATE MANDATES WITHOUT A SUPER-MAJORITY VOTE OF THE LEGISLATURE. WHEREAS, Indian River County is concerned with the Legislature's ability to Issue unfunded mandates to local governments since local governments should control their spending decisions;and WHEREAS, Indian River County would like it to be required that any state mandate be passed by a super-majority vote of the Legislature, and not by a simple-majority vote as it is now; and WHEREAS, Indian River County feels that this important revision is necessary to protect its citizens and taxpayers; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board urges the Legislature of the State of Florida to recommend that unfunded state mandates be prohibited unless passed by a super-majority vote. The resolution was moved for adoption by Commissioner Ginn ,and the motion was seconded by Commissioner Ti ppi n , and,upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: Chairman Carolyn K. Eggert Aye Vice Chairman John W. Tippin Aye Commissioner Kenneth R. Macht Absent Commissioner Caroline D. Ginn Aye Commissioner Fran B.Adams Aye The Chairman thereupon declared the resolution duly passed and adopted this 21 day of October, 1997.
