HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-058RESOLUTION NO. 95-58 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, TO THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE OPPOSING INCLUDING ADDITIONAL SPECIAL RISK CATEGORIES IN THE FLORIDA RETIREMENT SYSTEM. WHEREAS, the Florida Retirement System presently includes a "Special Riak-Class" for police and firefighters which ie significantly more expensive for:the County to fund than the category for regular employees; and WHEREAS, the State has proposed including certified paramedics and EMTs in the Special Risk Class of the Florida Retirement System which the County would have to fund; and WHEREAS, over the years the State has enacted unfunded County mandates, the escalating costs of which are putting a tremendous burden on the County's general fund; and WHEREAS, the cost to the County for each affected employee would be an additional 9.92% of pay; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board urges the Florida Legislature and the Governor of the State of Florida not to enact legislation which would put certified paramedics and EMTs in the Special Risk Class of the County - funded portion of the Florida Retirement System. The resolution was moved for adoption by Commissioner Eggert, and the motion was seconded by Commissioner Tippin, and, upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: Chairman Kenneth R.
