HomeMy WebLinkAbout1951-006RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the wooden bridge now existing across the DuUn River at Vero Beach, Florida, which forms a part of State Road No. 502 in Indian River County, Florida, was originally erected by a Special Tax District of Indian River County, Florida; and, WHEREAS, the State Road Department of Florida is now erecting a new bridge across said river to replace said old wooden structure; and, WHEREAS, the contract with the State Road Department of Florida and Cleary Brothers Construction Company for the erection of said new bridge provides for the removal of said old wooden bridge; and, WHEREAS, it is the opinion of the Board of County Com- missioners of Indian River County, Florida, that that portion of said old wooden bridge which lies East of the Channel in said Indian River could be used by the general public as a fishing pier; Now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, that this board does herewith respectfully request the State Road Department of Ylorida to release and convey that portion of said old wooden bridge above described to Indian River County, Florida. BE IT .FURTHER RESON ED, that the State Road Department of Florida is further requested to amend its contract with Cleary Brothers Construction Company in order that said contract shall provide for that part of said old wooden bridge above described to remain erected and intact and the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, do herewith agree to accept and assume full responsibility for that portion of said old wooden bridge above described immediately- upon its release and conveyance to Indian River County, Florida. WHURMSt the Statto Road Do-p*rtnent of t4o State at + Florida is now constructing d nomrIng completion or a now bridea across the Indian River in Veto aoh# Florida, an a part of State Road No. 502 d, WHEREAS, the contract of sai,ci State Road Department with Cleary Brothers Construction Company for the erection of said now bridge provides for tho removal of the existing wooden structure; and, WHEREAS, it is the opinions of the City Council of the City of Vero Beach, Florida, that that portion of said old wooden bridge existing to the Rant of the present Channel of the Indian River and to the East of the drawbridge would be of great benefit to the citizens of this aroats a fishing pier and for other public urea; Newt therefore, PV TT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Vero Reach, Plorldca, that the City of Vino Beach, Florida, does here- with respectfully request the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, to make application to the State Road Department of Florida for the retention of said bridge and Ito conveyance to Indian River County, Florida, and the City of Vara Beach does herewith agree to assume and accent full responvi- bility for said bridge, its maintenance or removal, as the cir- cumstances may require, which said responsibility of said City shall become effective imne diaatoly upon the conveyance or reloase of that portion of said bricks above described by the State Road Department; to gine Board of County Commissioners.
