Flescher District 2 Laura Moss District 5 As a fellow Republican, I want to congratulate you on another successful legislative session. While several positive bills were passed, we would like to call your attention to one bill that will negatively impact counties, cities, and in turn our taxpayers. Senate Bill 620/House Bill 569, which is dubbed the Local Business Protection Act could result in significant costs to counties and in turn our taxpayers which include local businesses. In the past, Indian River County enacted a local ordinance to address a very dire situation brought about by unscrupulous "pain clinics" that were leading to overdoses, criminal activity and other negative impacts on our community. Legislation such as SB 620 could make it more challenging to address issues such as this that may arise in the future. Frequently, local ordinances are needed to address businesses that operate in gray areas of the law and the shadows of society. The proposed legislation would provide financial protection for a few questionable businesses at the expense of the majority of reputable businesses in our communities. For this reason, we ask that you veto Senate Bill 620. During your time as governor, you have done an excellent job of providing a business -friendly environment in the State of Florida. This bill would not further that goal, as the vast majority of respectable businesses could end up paying higher taxes to provide financial gains to the small minority of bad actors within the business community. Thank you again for leadership and dedication. Pet_ejr erely, D. O'Bryan C- C j— r,,a.s Chairman lj e- I AeiG ChccK t T iU 1801 2711, Street, Building A Vero Beach, FL 32960 (772) 226-1490
