WHEREAS, November 11th was originally designated as Armistice Day,
co..__,norating the cessation of hostilities following World War I, and
WHEREAS, the significance of this day has not changed but it has
now become known and designated as Veterans' Day, as a day, not of
•
mourning but of recollection and dedication, and
WHEREAS, the Veterans Council of Indian River County believes that
one of the most vital things needed in our country today is a re -awakening
of patriotism that has in the past characterized our country, throughout its
long history, and a rededication by all Americans to the principles for
which our country stands, and for which it was founded, and
WHEREAS, the Veterans Council of Indian River County is planning
a patriotic program to take place at Memorial Island in Vero Beach, on
Veterans Day, November 11, 1970;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY the Board of County Commissioners
of Indian River County, Florida:
That we do commend the Veterans Council of Indian River County for
its foresight and interest in arranging the meeting to be held on Veterans
Day, November 11,1970, and we do call upon all of our citizens to participate
in this program and to take part in all of the ceremonies incident thereto,
and more importantly to use and observe the day as a day of appreciation for
all of those who have made sacrifices that our freedoms may be preserved, and
as a day when all of us should rededicate ourselves to love of our country
and to recognition of t1ne necessity for the observance of and adherence to
law and order and justice to all of our citizens, if our way of life is not
to perish from the earth.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this body does hereby,by the adoption
of this Resolution, recognize the splendid work that is being done by the
Veterans Council of Indian River County in giving due recognition to the
significance and importance of Veterans Day and that we do pledge to the
Veterans Council our full cooperation in connection with the arrangements
and events planned for that occasion.
On Motion of Commissioner Loy, second of Commissioner McCullers,
the following Resolution was unanimously adopted:
