HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970-04840 • • RES OLUT ION 70-48 WHEREAS, the Vegetable Industry of Florida is a multimillion dollar business with tomatoes and strawberries being a major commodity. WHEREAS, the continued increase in importation of tomatoes and strawberries from Mexico constitutes a most serious threat to our agri-business economy which cannot compete because of wage differential between Mexican and American workers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF' COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA IN REGULAR MEETING ASSEMBLED THIS 22ND DAY OF OCTOBER, 1970. That the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County does hereby respectfully request- the Congress of the United States of America to take whatever action is available and appropriate to protect our Vegetable Industry in the United States from drastic consequences of the unlimited importation of tomatoes and strawberries from Mexico. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that certified copies of this Resolution be furnished to the Honorable Spessard L. Holland, United States Senator; the IIonorable Edward J. Gurney, United States Senator; and the Honorable Sam Gibbons, United States Congressman; the State Association of County Commissioners and to each of the Boards of County Commissioners of the State of Florida.
