HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977-034® = RESOLUTION NO, 77-34 WHEREAS, the State of Florida has established a Regional i W Planning District- (hereinafter referred to as the Region), composed of Indian River, St, Lucie, Martin and Palm Beach Counties, pursuant to Chapter 23 Florida Sratutes; and WHEREAS, the Region presently is the fifth largest planning district in the State; and WHEREAS, the Counties of Indian Rivr.r, St. Lucie, Martin and Palm Beach have joined together to establish the Treasure Coas': Re- gional Planning Council (hereinafter referred to as the Council), pursuant to Chapter 163.01 Florida Statutes, to serve the Region; and WHEREAS, the State of Florida has recognized and designated the Council as the Regional Planning Agency pursuant to Chapter 380.06 Florida Statutes and Chapter 163.3191, Florida Statutes; and WHEREAS, the Council has responsibilities to perform certain planning activities pursuant to its designation as a Regional Planning Agency; and WHEREAS, the State of Florida has provided funding to designated Regional Planning Agencies for the past five fiscal years from the General Fund; and WHEREAS, the Governor has recommended funding for Regional Planning Agencies, including the Council, for fiscal year 1977-78; and WHEREAS, the Florida House of Representatives Appropriation Sub -committee "2" has indicated that all Regional Planning Agencies, with the sole exception of the Council, should receive funding for fiscal year 1977-78 from the General Fund; and WHEREAS, the Council has the same responsibilities under State designation as all other Regional Planning Agencies, NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that 1. The County opposes any action of the Florida House of Representatives Appropriation Sub -committee "2" to delete funding available to the Council. to assist in the carrying out of the re- sponsibil.Ities under Chapter 3130,06, F101Jda Statutes and Cliihter 1.63,31.91. ® Florida Statutes, 2, The County strongly urges the Florida House of Represent- atives Appropriation Sub -committee "2" to reconsider their position and to provide funding to the Council on an equal basis as is provided to all other Regional Planning Agencies throughout the State, 3. A copy of this Resolution be provided to each member of Florida House of Representatives Appropriation Subcommittee "2" and each member of the Legislature which represent any area within the Region.
