HomeMy WebLinkAbout1983-013RESOLUTION NO. 83-1.3 A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, FLORIDA, ENCOURAGING THE FLORIDA INLAND NAVIGATION DISTRICT TO CHANGE ITS DIRECTION TO INCREASE MARINE PATROL AND TO AID IN EROSION CONTROL PROJECTS ALONG THE INDIAN RIVER. WHEREAS, the Florida Inland Navigation District has 1eleaseu a report informing the 1.1 counties located along the Intracoastal Waterway that they have a surplus of funds; and WHEREAS, FIND would like to utilize these funds in the areas surrounding the waterway by increasing the number of marine patrolpersons in each of the 11 counties and by funding channel erosion projects and other physical improvements; and WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners supports the change in the direction of FIND to further protect the economic and acol.og.ical resources which exist along the Indian River. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF INDIAN RIVER COUN'IC, FLORIDA, that: 1. FIND be encouraged to use a portion of the fund to hire additional marine patrolpersons for each of. the It counties, including Indian River County, thereby enhancing the policing effort in the Indian River, and 2. FIND is also encouraged to use the remainder of the fund to aid in the various erosion control projects to benefit this scenic area. The foregoing resolution was offered by Commissioner Lyons who moved its adoption. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Fletcher and, upon being put to a vote, the vote was as follows: Chairman Richard N. Bird - Aye Vice -Chairman Don C. Scurlock, Jr. Absent Commissioner A. Grover Fletcher - Nay Commissioner Patrick B. Lyons - Aye Commissioner William C.
