HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/4/1934TUESDAY, DECEMBER 4th 1934. The Board of County Commissioners in and for Indian River County, Florida, mat at the Court House in Vero Beach, at 10:00 o'clock A. If. Tuesday, December 4th 1934, with the following members of the Board present: J.J.P.Hamilton, Chairman; Frank C. Vickers, R. E. Itidge; John M. Knight and Edwin A. Helseth. Also present were Wm. Friek,Sheriff, Charles A. Uitchell, Attorney for the Board and Miles Marren, Clerk. The minutes of the regular and special meetings held in October and November were read and approved. Fire Arm bond of C. S. Rice, in the sum of $100.00 with Eli C. Walker and Ormond Taylor, as suretiesx was approved and li cense issued to carry a 38 S & W Revolver. Bond of Enoch C .Ri chards,Inc. , in the sum of $769.760 being in double the amount of tax certificate lost or misplaced was approved and it was ordered that Duplicate Tax Sale certificate be issued said corporation covering Certificate No. 1898 dated August 5th 1959. The following resolution was duly adopted: Commissioner Knight offered the following resolution and moved its adoption: VIBEREAS, the Board of Administration has submitted proposals of certain firms or corporations to sell certain bonds or obligations assumed by Indian River County and the .Special Districts of said County, under the provisions of House Bill No. 30, JActs of the 1933 Legislature, and WHEREAS this Board having carefully considered the same, and taking into consideration the amount of funds available for that purpose and the current market price of . said bo and obligations, it is deemed expedient to purchase certain of said obligations; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, ' by the Board of County Commi ss ioners of Indian River County, Florida, that the State Board of Administration be required to purchase the following obligations of this County: One (1) 'Special Road. & Bridge District No. 1 bond due 1936 at 44 flat as designated "tA.". One (1) St Lucie (bunty Highway Bond, dated Feb 191920, due 1947 at 41 flat as designated "E". Three (3) St Lucie County Public Highway bonds, dated Feb 1919209 due 1939 at 49 flat as designated "F". The resolution was duly seconded by Commissioner Vickers, and upon being put to a vote the some vas unanimoubly adopted. W. R. Duncan, Tax Assessor, submitted bills for the years 1933 and 1934 of Commi ssions due him as such Assessor for special taid.ng Districts of the County, and the same Navin been properly checked, audited and verified were approved by this Board for payment by the respective Districts. Such bills being as follows: Indian River Mosquito Control Di strdot:. Commissions for 1934 ...............E 85.37 Commi ss ions for 1933 ...............$104.48 Florida Inland Navigation District. Commissions for 1934 ...............E 42.69 Commissions for 1933 ....:.......... 34.84 V. H. Gams & 'Son, Architects, who prepared plans and specifications for a Court House, same being on file with the Public Works Administration in Washington, -submitted a bill for $104.42 for actual expenses in connection with the preparation of same, with the understanding the said plans will remain the property of this County, if paid. Afte due consideration on motion made, seconded and carried, it was ordered that W H Garns & Son be paid the sum of $104.42 and bill for this amount duly approved, to be paid from the first available funds. 1 1 I. 1 1 1 1 Otis M. Cobb, attorney, appeared before the Board regarding the rent he is due the County for space occupied in the Court House. He agreed to pay the November rent not later than December 10th and to pay the armunt due, $10.00 each month thereafter regu- larly and an additio,=l $5.00 per month on the back rent until the full amount now due is paid. After some discussion the Board agreed to accept these terms and instructed the Sheriff to collect accordingly. John Gragnegger, Fellsmere, ms ordered stricken from the pauper list he having died during the month of November, 1934. It me ordered that Mrs. Eva Helen Vojtik, Fellsmere, be stricken from the Mothers Pension list. Application of Mrs Fronie Barker, Vero Beach, for Mothers Pension me received, and after carefully considering the same, and it being mode to appear there are three children dependent upon her, it was ordered she receive the sum of $10.00 per month until the further orders of this Board. It was ordered that the following be placed on the pauper list to receive the amount indicated, until the further o nder of this Board: Hilliard Nelson ( Col) Sebastian. ....... $4.00 per month Lucy Beal (col) Sebastian....... e$4.00 per month RESOLUTION Commissioner R. E. Aldge, introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption, to -gait: WHEREAS, a Junior Chamber of Commerce has been organized and is actively working in Vero Beach for the benefit of Indian River County as a whole; and WHEREAS, the activities of this organization to date indicate that it is a non- partison and non-political group of young men actually and efficiently engaged in the civic, betterment of this County; THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, that the Vero Beach Junior Chamber of Commerce be herewith invitdid to appoint or designate a committee from its membership to assist and co-operate with the Board of County Com-, ssioners and others in securing the erection of a Court House in this County and in furthering such other projects as may be beneficial to the County and its citizensA Commissioner John M. Knight seconded the adoption of the resolution and on roll call it was adopted as follows: Ayes; Hamilton; Mudge; Knight; Vickers and Helseth. Hayes: None. The several bills and accounts against the County having been audited, were examined, and found correct were approved and warrants ordered issued in settlement of Same. Such bills and accounts being on file in the office of the Clerk Circuit Court, duly recorded in the County Finance record as provided by law. The warrants so slued from the respective funds being listed completely in the supplementary minute ook as provided by law. The County Depository filed its monthly statement showing receipts and disburse - ents of the various funds, which having been checked over was found to. be correct.
