HomeMy WebLinkAbout1/5/19351 OATURDFAY, JANUARY 5th 1935. The Board of County Commissioners in and for Indian River County, Florida, met at the Court House in Vero Beach, at 10:00 o'clock A. M. Saturday, January 5th 1935, with the following members of the Board presents J. J. P. Bamilton, Chai3 a.n; R. E. ITudge and John ST-. Knight. Also present were Wm. Frick, Sheriff, Chas. A. Mitchell, Attorney and 'Kiley Wnrren, Clerk. The minutes of the regular and special meeting held in December 1934, were read and approved. Mr. Eaerson appeared before the Board regarding an exla.ibit of Indian. River. County at the festival to be held in Fort Pierce. The Board agreed to take this under con - sideration. The Pothers Pension application of Mrs Bertha Morrison, widow, Vero Beach, was received and carefully considered. It appearing she has 4 children dependent upon her for support it was ordered that she be placed on the list to receive the sum of x$10.00 per month. It was ordered Mrs. F. A. Roddenberry, Gunter Beach, be placed on the pauper list to receive the sum of $6.00 per month until the further ordetz, of the Board, A Notary Public bond of 0. 0. Simmer in the sum. of $500.00 with the American Surety Company, a corporation, as surety %vas approved. Bond of Edwin A. Helseth, as County Commissioner District #5, in the sum of A 02,000.00 , with National SLarety Corporation, " a corporation, as surety was approved. As provided by law €a list of Confederate pensioners was received from the State Comptroller and was carefully checked over by the Board and found to be correct,with the exception of Jas C. Kinard of DeSoto City, Florida, who is a resident of Highlands County. Piss Leila Bunkley brought before the Board the question of Mahalia Morton, now i n gest Palm Beach, whose ailment has been diagnosed as Tuberculosis, and requested that this County take care of her. The Board declined to asstime responsibility of this case. The following resolutionwas introduced by Commissioner Mudge, who moved its adoption: 1 1AS the lags of Florida now permit the sale of liquor and alcoholic beverages and require the payment of an occupational license tax by persons engaged in the sale of such liquors; TH�H EFORE,, BE IT RESOLVED, that the official or officials charged with the coll- ection of such license be requested to immediately attempt collection of such license from all persons engaging in such occupation .and upon non-payment thereof to immediately report the same to the proper officials charged with the enforcement of the criminal statutes for such non-payment; 9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all County officials vdiose duties concern the coll- ection of said occupational license and the enforcement of penalties for the non-pay- ment thereof, be requested to co-operate in enforcing payment of said licenses. Such bills and, accounts being on f ile in the office of the Clerk Circuit Court. The warrants so issued from the respective funds being listed completely in -the supple- mental minute book, as provided by law, reference to. such record and the list so recorded being made m port of those minutes. The County Depository filed its monthly report of receipts and disbursements, which having been check was found to be correct. Tuesday, January 8th 1935, with the; following members of the Board, who had been elected at the election of November 6th 1934, present and=presenting their commissions: Frank 0. Vickers; R. E. U.dge; J .J.P.Ha.milton; E. P.. Poole and Edwin A. Helseth. Al so, p resent were Vim Frick, -Sheriff, Chas. A. Yitchell,'Atiorney for the Board and Miles War- en, Clerk. On motion made, seconded and unanimously carried, j. J. P. Hamilton, was elected Chairman of the'Boardn until its further. orders. The following persons were named for the position indicated, for the ensuing year, and at the salary stipulated: Chas. Mersey, Ro ad.Su.t. , $100.00 per month Alex Davis, Janitor, 325.00 per month Chas. A. Hitehell,- of the firm of Vocelle & Mitchell', was selected as County Attorney at a salary of $75.00' per month for any and all legal services whatsoever, with the understanding no expense charge will be incurred against the County unless it is nec-` e ssaxy to go beyond the limits of this Judicial Circuit on business for the County. Ormond Taylor, representing Sinclair Refining Co., appeared before the Board and' requested the account of the County for the year 1935. 'It was ordered that all pet- roleum product s`be' purchased from .Sinclair Refining Co.', during the ensuing year. malt-er Monroe Jr , appeared before the Board regarding his knee alleged to have been injured while incarcerated in the County Jail. The Board agreed that it disclaims any and all liability`, and no assistance can be given him in this connection. The ^lax' Collectot and=1eriff were called before the Board and they advised that no person or f irm has- obtained State and County license to sell intoxicating liquors.' The Board after carefully considering this recommended that the Sheriff notify every dealer of intoxicating liquors ten days will be given them to apply for a, license other'►aise such dealers will be proceeded against in "the matter provided by law. It was moved, seconded and carried that S. IT. Smith and Otis M. Cobb pay at least ,025.00 rent not- later, than the 10th of January, 1335 and failure be ousted from the space they now occupy, in the Court House and unle"ss the, rent is paid each month the .Attorney for the Board and the Sheriff is directed to disposses these tenants.
