HomeMy WebLinkAbout7/1/19351 1 [1 XONDAYs JULY let 1935: The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River Uounty met in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court at Vero Beach in the County of Indian River, on this the 1st day of July, 1935, and the following County Commissioners were presentl J.J.P.Hamil- ton, Chairmen; H. E. Madge; L. P. Poole and Edwin A. Helseth. Absent Frank C. Vickers. Also present were James T. Vocelle, Attorney; wm. W. Trick, sheriff and Miles warrens Clerk. J. D. Baker appeared before the Board regarding insurance on new County Truck purchased. it me ordered that this insurance be placed with Mr. Baker and he was ini - strracted to prepare the policy. U. E. Knowles appeared before the Board requesting the County Commissioners to recommend to the State Board of Pardons the released of Lawrence Hmi:th, serving a 6 months jail sentence for assaulting his mother. The Board refused the request. The following resolution ms introduced by Commissioner Mudge, who moved its adoptions WHERW3,, the Board of Administration has submitted certain proposals of firms and corporations offering to sell to said Board of Administration bonds of the County of Indian River, and obligations assumed by said County, under the provisions of House bill No. 30, gets of the 1933 Legislature, and, WHEREAS, after carefully considering all of such proposals, and taxing into con- sideration the amount of funds available for that purpose, and the approximate value of said bonds, it is deemed advisable and expedient to purchase certain of said bonds and obligations, to -wits Two (2) Bt Lucie County Public Hight bonds, dated Feb 19 1920 due Feb 1, 1944 at a price of 67 flat, as designated offering O C° . THEREFOYM, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Administration be requested to purchase the foregoing bonds in accordance with the terms of the offerings. The foregoing resolution vas duly seconded by Commissioner Helseth, and upon being put to a vote the some uas unanimously adopted. The Zlsrksof the Circuit Court having prepared estimates of the revenue and receipts from sources .other than from taxes to be levied, reasonably to be expected from the first day of October 1935 to the 30th day of September 1936, the said estimates having been properly verified under oath were ordered spread upon the minutes of the Board, and is in words and figures as followas GENERAL k VENUE FUND. Race Track funds.....:.::... ::. :; 49000.00 Tax Redemptions...: ........:.:..::. 40200.00 Cash balance available.:....::..:.. 150.00 $89360.00 The Tax Assessor having presented his books showing the assessed valuation of pro - petty for examination by the Board in compliance with the requirements of Section 934 of Compl ed General Laws, and Senate Bill No. 8899 Acts of 1935 Legislature, and the Board of County Commissioners having given notice for fifteen days by publication in the Vero Beach Press -Journal, a newspaper published at Vero Beach, in the County of Indian River that the Board would meet on this day as a Board of Equalizers for the purpose of hearing complaints and receiving testimony as to the value of any property, real, personal or mixed, as fixed by the County Assessor of taxes for assessment for the taxes for the yeas 1935, the owners and agents of property, who appeared for that purpose, were allowed to make full and complete statements as to the valuation of the property owned or represent( by them and the Tax Assessor and the members of the Board having fully discussed the statements and facts as presented decided that no change would be made in the valuation of art of the property on the assessment roll. The Board then agreed that said Board will continue to sit as a Board of Equalizers of taxes tomorrow. The Board then adjourned until tomorrow morning at 10:00 o'clock A. The Board of County Commissioners of Indian kdver County, met at the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court at Vero Beach, in the County of indian niver, on this 2nd day of July, 1935, and the following County Commissioners were present: J.J.P.Ho.milton, Chairman; R.E.Mudge; E. P. Poole and Edwin A. fielseth. .Absent Frank C. Vickers. Also present were James T. Vocelle, Attorney, wm W. Frick, Sheriff and Miles Warren, Clerk, John W.M. '%heeler; Dr. David Hone; Mrs. Paul Luther; Miss Etheridge, VERA Nurse and Mrs. Conquist, Federal District Nurse appeared before the Board and urged this County to join St. Iucie, Martin and Okeechobee Counties in the organization of a Public Health Unit. .After some discussion, it was moved, seconded and carried that the stmm of $2900.00 be placed in the budget, in the General Revenue :Fund for this purpose, with the under- standing that all the other Counties join in the movement. it was ordered that W. H. earns & ions, architects, proceed immediately to prepare the necessary blue prints of proposed Court Houses it was ordered that the allowance heretofore granted Mrs Lenora Snell be increased from $5.00 to 07.00 per month. The Notary Public bond of Walter A. Stewart, in the sum of !¢500.00 with American Surety Company, a corporation, as surety was approved. F. e. Heiser, of Fellemere, appeared before the Board regarding Road designated i 7 i I.
