and found correct, were approved and warrants issued in settlement of same. Such bills and
;accounts being on file in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court, the fNarrants so issued
'jfrom the respective funds being listed in the .Supplemental Minute Book, as provided by the
rules of the State Auditor, reference to such record and the list so recorded being made a part
of these minutes.
The County Depository filed its monthly statement, showing receipts and disbursements
of the various funds, which having been audited were found to be correct.
There being no further business, on motion made, seconded and carried, the Board then,.

!' The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County met at the Court House in
Vero Beach, at 10:00 o'clock A. M. Tuesday, January 4, 1944s in regular meeting with the
;following members of the Board present: W. C. Graves, dr., Chairman: S. E. Glover, Frank C.
� Viokers, Albert 0. Helseth and G. E. Barkoskie. Also present were ism. W. Frick, Sheriff,
Charles A. Mitchell, Attorney for the Board,. and Douglas Baker, Clerk.
On motian.made by Commissioner Helseth, seconded by Commissioner Vickers and unanimous
-ly carried, W. C. Graves, dr., was elected Chairman, S. E. Glover Chairman Pro Tem, until the
further orders of the Board.

It was moved by Commissioner Glover, seconded by Commissioner Vickers and unanimously'
carried, that all present county officers and employees be retained for the year 1944.
It was ordered the Orange State Oil Company (Cities Service) receive the county gas

,land oil business for the first six months of this year ending dune 30th, 1944.

Charles A..Mitchell, Attorney, was requested to obtain information from the City
Clerk as to the cost to purchase the cities interest on Lot 28, Block 35,.Original Town of
Vero Beach.

Order Book #12 for the Clerk's office.

Application for admission to the Florida State Tuberculosis Sanatorium, Orlando, of
Henry C. Jackson was approved.
On motion made by Commissioner Helseth, seconded by Commissioner Barkoskie and
unanimously carried, it was ordered W. R. Duncan, Tax Assessor, receive the sutra of $150.00 per
i month to be applied on cogmissions due him on the 1944 Tax Rolls. l
On motion by Commissioner Barkoskie, seconded by Commissioner Helseth and u*animouslyN:
carried, the Board agreed to loan Harry Combs, City Road Supt., the drag line maps of the
county for use in the city with the understanding that an agreement be entered into whereby
the said maps would be delivered back to the county in good condition or to replace them with
new ones.

Pursuant to Chapter 82079, Laws of Florida, Acts of 1943, Douglas Baker, Clerk, de-
livered to the Board of County Commissioners the schedule or list duly certified by such Clerk
of all lands upon which tax certificates were issued at the county Tax Collector's sale of
delinquent taxes held September 2, 1940; August 7, 1939; July 4, 1938; August 2, 1937; August
39 1936, and September._2, 1935, and on all•such lands as were bid off by such Tax Collector
and which taxes have not been redeemed or purchased. Such schedule or list of lands 'being on
file in the office of the Clerk of Circuit Court being listed in the Supplemental minute Book,
reference to such record and the list or schedule so recorded being made a part of these
E. E. Carter, County Engineer, was requested to put a notice in the local newspaper
stating that limbs of trees overhanging the county roads and highways would be out off or
removed because of the damage that was being done to passing motor vehicles.
On motion made by Commissioner Barkoskie, seconded by Commissioner Vickers and
unani.mously,carried, the salary of Otis M. Cobb, Judge of the Juvenile Court, be increased
$25.00 per month.

Lot 8 of Block 28, City of Vero Beach,
hereby make application to your Honorable Body to issue a duplicate tax certificate in lieu of
the original described herein, for the following reasons:
1. That said tax sale certificate was purchased by the above named C. W. Petty at
the regular tax sale of 1934, for which he paid the sum of $29.50•
2. That said tax sale certificate, or any interest or any interest therein has not 11
been hypothecated, sold, assigned,

transferred or delivered by him or by me, and he or I have
received no.consideration therefor.
3. That said tax sale certificate has been lost or destroyed, that I.have made
diligent search, and am unable to locate said certificate.
4. That if duplicate certificate is issued in lieu thereof, and the original should,
at any time, be located, the same will be surrendered to the Clerk of the Circuit Court of
Indian River County, Florida, for cancellation.

5. That I, Mabel A. Knapp, joined by my husband,'Falter Knapp, as a further con-
j sideration, acknowledge ourselves held and firmly bound unto Douglas Baker, Clerk of the
1i Circuit Court of Indian River County, Florida, and his successors in office, in the suss of
059.009 being double the amount of the face value of said certificate, for payment whereof,well
and duly to be made, we bind ourselves, or executors and administrators firmly by these pre-
sents, should said certificate be presented by any person whomsoever, assigned or otherwise,
for payment or application for tax deed thereon.
6. 'We solemnly swear that the statements contained herein in support of this applica
-tion for issuance of duplicate tax sale certificate are true and correct.

The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County met at the Court House in
ii Vero Beach, at 10:00 o'clock A. M. Tuesday, February 1, 19449 in regular meeting with the
following members of the Board present: W. C. Graves, Jr., Chairman: S. E. Glover, Frank C.
Vickers, Albert 0. Helseth and G. E. Barkoskie. Also present were Vm. W. Frick, Sheriff,
,;Charles A. Mitchell, Attorney for the Board, and Douglas Baker, Clerk.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Douglas Baker, Clerk, reported $1,000.00 received from the United States Navy for
11 damage to county barn by an aeroplane on October 23, 1943, and the same was deposited in the
I, Road and Bridge Fund.

It was moved by Frank C. Vickers, seconded by Albert 0. Helseth and unanimously
carried, that the Vero Beach Press Journal, a newspaper of general circulation, published in
Indian River County, Florida, and which newspaper has' -been continuously published in said
County for a period of more than one year prior to this date, be and it is hereby selected and
designated by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County as the newspaper in whichi
shall be published the list of lands to be advertised and sold by the Tax Collector of Indian
River County and which selection is required under the provisions of Section 969 Compiled
General Laws of Florida; and that said newspaper be designated for the publication of such other:
a legal notices as may be required to be designated by said Board of County Commissioners. J
Notary Public Bond for Virginia Nye in the sum of $500.00 with American Surety Compaq.*
of New York as surety, was approved.
Sheriff Frick paid to the county the sum of $632.37 representing Excess Fees from his''
Ii office for the calendar year 1943 and the same deposited in the County Officer's Excess Fee
-Fund.

At the request of Mr..E..G. Thatcher, the Board agreed to permit the city to borrow
!i the county vacuum cleaner for use in the Community Building for the purpose of cleaning rugs,

etc.
h! The Board authorized payment of $300.00 to the Chamber of Commerce from the General
Ip
Revenue Fund for advertisement and publicity purposes in behalf of Indian River County,and also
I an emergency contribution because of the war situation in the sum of $200.00, aggregating $500.
As provided by law, the Tension Department furnished this Board with a list of
Pensioners, namely, Mrs. Annie Ruffner and Etta G. Tyner of Wabasso, who are now receiving

Confederate Pensions from the State, which having been checked over by the Board, was found

to be correct.
