HomeMy WebLinkAbout3/6/1945=SPAY 6 , 1945 'The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County met at the Court :.House in Ver( Beaoh, at 10:00 o'clock A. M. Tuesday, March 6, 1945, in regular meeting with the following members of the Board present: W, C. Graves, dr., Chairman: Frank C. Viokers, Albert 4. Relseth, 8. E. Glover and R. W. Graves. Also present were E. E. Carter, County Engineer, L. B. O'Steen,"I, Sheriff, Charles A. Mitchell, Attorney and Douglas Baker, Clerk. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Notary Public Bond for A. A. Sullivan in the sum of $500.00 with the Metropolitan Casualty Insurance Company of New York as Surity was approved. Sheriff L. B. O'Steen was authorized to'purohase 55 gallons of disinfeotent and 4 sprays for the jail, both to cost approximately $90.00. Douglas Baker, Clerk, was authorized to purchase deed and mortgage reoords for the Clerk's office. Ronorable Eli C. Walker appeared before the Board and requested that the county cut grass, trees and shrubbery at various road crossings within the county because said trees and shrubbery were obstructing the view of persons driving or riding in motor vehicle. The re- quest was granted and County Engineer E. E. Carter was authorized to proceed with the work. Notary Public Bond for F. D. Bush in the sum of $500.00 with American Surity Company of New York as surity was approved. Notary Public Bond for Charles Br Fulton in the sum of }500.00 with ,American Surity Company of New York as surity was approved. A'letter was reoeived from Mr. W. A. Stewart, Assistant Treasurer of the Fellsmere Sugar Producers Assooiation calling the Board to the attention of a tuberculosis case in the lcolored quarters of Fellamere, the patient being Herbert Edmond. Considerable discussion was held and the Board agreed that something should be done and would provide for partial finanoial ,assistance in the case. Mrs. Hellenist), County Nurse, was requested by the Board to try and make satisfactory arrangements. The Board authorized Douglas Baker, Clerk, to deliver the county warrants issued to child welfare work to Mrs. Audrey M. Pittman who told Mr. Baker that she would be the essis* taut child welfare worker in Indian River County and further that the warrants continue to be issued in the sum of $50.00 per month and that they be delivered or transmitted to Mrs. Pittman., County deeds numbers 68 to 80, both inclusive, oovering lends acquired by the County under Chapter 194, Acts of 1941, Florida Statutes, were signed by the several members of the Board. On motion made by Commissioner Glover, seconded by Commissioner R. W. Graves and ear- Tried, the Board agreed to underwrite the sum of $250.00 as a reward offered toperson or persons furnishing information leading to the arrest and conviction of tIe person or persons who killed L. C. Stokes of Fellsmere, Florida. APPLICATION FOR ISSUANCE OF DUPLICATE TAX SALE CERTIFICATE BY VERO BEACH SERVICE & SUPPLY COMPANY To the Bon. Thompson, it's du- ly authorized Agent, of the County of Dauphin State of Pennsylvania, being the owner of Tax Sale Certificate No. 86 dated the 5th day of August 1929, in the sum of $151.65 covering the following described property, to -wit: Lot 11, Block 30, City of Vero Beach, Florida hereby make application to your Honorable Body to issue a duplicate Tax Sale Certificate in lieu, of the original described herein for the following reasons: (1) That said Tax Sale Certificate was purchased by me at the regular sale of 1929 for wbtcb I paid the scam of $131.65. Feary tat, 1945 We, the under signed land owners, owning property in Seotione 20, 28 & 29, T. 31 S., R. 39 E. do respectfully petition your Honorable body to locate and construct a servioable oounty road beginning at the paved road near the Chesser residence in Wabasso and extending northerly on or along the sand ridge for a distance of approximately two miles. With regard to the foregoing road petition, the Board appointed as a oommittee E. B. Carter, County Engineer, F. C. Viokers and R. Graves, for the purpose of selecting a deft- nits looation as to the proposed road right of way, said committee to report bask to the Board as to their findings. Charles . . Mitchell, Attorney, speaking in behalf of the City of Fero Beach, stated' that the City was interested in acquiring or having dedicated to them lots 2, 3, 4 and 5, Dlook' 2, Edgewood Addition. Said lots are in the present county foreclosure suit on which final degree is to be obtain in the near future. It was agreed by the Board, et the proper tido. that they be dedicated to the oity of Vero Beaoh with the proper reversion clause. On motion made by Frank C. Vickers, seconded by S. E. Glover and carried, the Board agreed to raise their bid to the sum of. #2,500.00 for the purchase of the U. S. Coastguard s barraoks at Wabasso. When as and if the foregoing property is purchased by the oounty and if the said pro- perty should be leased, the Board is of the unanimous opinion that a clause should be inaorpor71 sted in said lease to the effect that no alaoholio beverages could be sold, dispensed or oon- suited on said premises. The motion was offered by R. W. Graves, seconded by F. C. Viokers and unanimously Carrie d. Mr. Floyd E. Snow, 907, Congress Building, Miami, through discussing with Attorney Charles A. Mitchell, suggested that the Board of County Commissioners of this County officially comnuzntoate with Mr. Herman Gunter, State Geologist, and request that the state make a survey in Indian River County as to deposits of heavy gravity mineral end that the development of the 1 I; same might be of considerable eoonomic benefit to this area. Douglas Baker, Clerk, was authorized to write a letter to Mr. Gunter. requesting such a survey to be made. The several bills and accounts against vthe County, having been audited, were examined and found correct, were approved end warrants issued in settlement of same. Suoh bills and accounts being on file in the office of the . .Clerk of the Circuit Court, the Warrants so is- sued from the respective funds being listed in the Supplemental Minute Book, as provided by the rules of the State Auditor, reference to such record and the list ao recorded being mads a part of theseminutes.
