Tuesday, November 5, 1946, in regular meeting with the i following members of the Board present: W. C. Graves, Jr., Chairman; Frank C. Vickers, R. W. Graves, S. E. Glover, and Albert 0. Helseth. Also present were Charles A. Mitchell, Attorney; E. E. Carter, County Engineer; L. B. O'Steen, Sheriff; and Douglas Baker, Clerk. ThOpminutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Application for admission to the Florida State Tuberculosis Sanitorium, Orlando, was approved October 221 1946 for Martha Parker, Vero Beach. Application for admission to the Florida State Tuberculosis Sanitorium, Orlando, was approved for J. A. Stevens' 1822 Wilbur Avenue, Vero Beach, November 2, 1946, Mr. I. F. Stinson appeared before the Board and requested a fire truck owned by the I'Indian River Fire Protective association be stationed at Wabasso for protection of the Wabasso-ii !Fellsmere area. Chairman Graves representing the Board of County Commissioners suggested that ;he together with Mr. Stinson confer with Mr. Warren T. Zeuch of the Indian River Fire Protective' iAssociation in order that satisfactory plans and arrangements might be made to meet the request of Mr. Stinson in the matter. A letter was received from Mrs. Ida G. Dixon, Clerk; Fellsmere, Florida, wanting to fire purchase the forementioned/truck owned by the Iffdian River Fire Protective Association, and Douglas Baker, Clerk, was instructed to advise Mrs. Dixon that the truck was not for sale, but would likely be stationed at or near Wabasso for the protection of the citizens residing in ,the Wabasso-Fellsmere area. On motion made by Commissioner Vickers, seconded by Commissioner Helseth and unani- lmously carried, the monthly payment to the Indian River Hospital was increased.$25.00 per month,1' i.e., from $150 to $175 per month. I, It was ordered to pay election officials, Deputy Sheriffs and rentals on buildings ti'in which the election was held on the following basis: $8.00 per day for election officials Plus $2.00abdmilage for the person delivering the ballot box. $6.00 -per day for Deputy Sheriffs and $3.00 per day for rental on voting places. Said election geld this 5th day of November, 1946. On Motion made by Commissioner Glover, seconded by Commissioner Helseth, Elmer Harris,',, having been recommended by the American Legion and Veterans Foreign War, was appointed County Service Officer succeeding T. W. Cobb who regigned. The matter of an exhibit from Indian River County to the Tampa fair was rejected by the Board. On motion made by R. W. Graves, seconded by S. E. Glover and unanimously carried the salary of Mr. C. E. Strait was increased $25.00 per month' i.e., $125 to $150 per month. j Chairman Graves was instructed by the Board to sign a Bahamian labor pay -roll for the;l i� foreign labor for the proper time between this date and the next meeting. Also present were Charles A. Mitchell, Attorney; E. Zo Carter, County Engineer; L. B. O'Steen, Sheriff; and Douglas Baker, Clerk. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. On motion made, duly seconded and carried, Charles A. Mitchell and Be E. Carter were instructed to prepare a notice inviting bids for a new pick-up truck. Application of Alonzo Williams (Colored), Fellsmere, Florida, for license to sell intoxicating liquors, wines and beer (Series 3D -PS) was inspected, and after carefully consid- ,ering the same, on motion made, seconded and carried, the same was approved.
