WHEREAS, the public highway br9.dge whi. nova . traverses the Indian River within the
corporatb,.)limlts::of the City of Vero Beach in Indian River County is a part of the state road
system and is maintained by the State Road Department of Florida; and'
WHERBAS9 said bridge has become inadequate for the traffic using sups bridge and is
an old bridge df wooden construction and the draw of which allows only one-way traffic at any
one time -and is Insufficient both for traffic over such bridge and for water traffic passing
,'through such draw; and,
WHWWAS9 all right-of-way necessary for the construction of a new br$dge across said
Indian River within the corporate limits of Vero Beach and in accord with a svey of the state
Road department, has been provided to the- Starte- of Florida without cost; ands
Gi WHERE'AS, ,#t i.s of the utmost importance that said inadequate br*dgo 4e replaced by
such new bridge at the earliest possible moment; and,
BE IT' L]�VED9 by the Board of County Commissioners of IndianIc
or-Co unty, that the
State Road Departmm# of Florida be and it is herewith respectfully requ®eked Q build such -new
bridge which shall consist in part of causewgy and part of bridge across rho Ttdian River in
Vero Beach and forming a part of the state road system in the calendar year 1948 and that pro-
vision be made In the budget of aaid State Road Department for the.year 1948 for the construe -
tion of such brldge,�

and found correct, --were approved and warrants issued in settlement of same. -Such bills and ac-

part of these minutes.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

'Board stated to the committee that as soon as conditions were favarae they would give the

Mr: Seamon and Mr. Allen from Riomar,, and Eugene Phillips, representing the City of
Vero Beachq appeared before the Board with regard to the public road Mich runs darn the

It is our understanding from Honorable Alex MacWilliams county Representatives the
State Road Department has indicated its willingness to take over the read for managements but
they could not do so until the survey had been made of the road witb a definite description of
It. After careful considerations it was moved by Commissioner Heltethq seconded by Commissioner
gelpling and unanimously carried that the Board have such a survey-`madep and that said survey
would cost approximately $300.00.
The following was appointed Deputy Sheriff by L. Be O'Steen, Sheriff, and Douglas
Baker% Clerks announced that said appointment had been filed with hint.

The Board selected W. C. Graves, Jr. as representative from Indian River County to
the Flood Control Committee of Florida.
County Agent M. A. Boudet submitted a report of his .activities for the month of
January, likewise a plan of work for 1948. Said reports were ordered filed with the Clerk.
