Carter, County Road and Bridge Superintendent, was instructed to mp o :contact Mr. Coslow of the Army Engineers' in order to obtain his views or ideas on the matter 1 as td the present removal of the remainder of the bridge' and whether action might be deferred is to some future dates Mr. Thomas Reed presented a petition signed by himself and twenty-five other tittzem ®f Roseland requesting the street running between the Goodrich-and°Wastin houses to the river and the street between L* Stokes and the Roseland park be opened'to the public as they are public streets but have been closed up by individuals to the' nju*r of the public* The Board advised Mr. Reed that they would and did instruct Be Z. Carter' County Road and Bridge Super- intendent and Commissioner H. C* Watts of that district to investigate the matter and report back to this Board at an early date* Chairman Graves explained to the Board the physical condition of Mar. R. J. Chapman . stating that an operation was necessary and on motion of Commissioner Helpling seconded y Commissioner Stewart and carried the Board authorized the expenditure not to exceed the sum I' of .100 *= towards the cost of an operation for Mr.- Chapman. The Board authorized Commissioner Helpling to investigate the welfare ease of ` �R Mrs. Sully Finley who was in meed of services of an E.M. specUUnot for a possible operation [on nose to relieve asthmatic condition and .authorized.such action as seemed necessary and `advisable. Mitchell, Attorney, was instructed to investigate agd proceeds in the proper manner, in order that said equipment might be purchased by the County, The motion for the purchase of said equipment was made by Commissioner Stewart$ seconded by Conmissioner � .ddells and unanimously carried. U. ►. Boudet, County. Agents submitted a report of his activities for the month of 'Decembers 1948, which was reviewed and ordered filed with the Clerk. Mr. Boudet in refering to the County fair exhibit at the coming f .r in Tampa to be held in February of this year stated the Indian River Citrus League desired to tike over the County exhibit and supervise and use it as a section project comprising -of -several Counties in 111eu of an individual Sounty project of Indian River County, in other words three Sounty �if"sirs in one. After the matter had been discussed, it was moved by Cosgoisstoner Stewart' !''seconded by Commissioner Waddell, and carried, that this request be granted and the $300000 (formerly appropriated for this project be made payable to the Indiah,River Citrus League at the direction and supervision of the County Agent' Boudeto Honorable Homer Assessor, requested permit to purchase typeew Iter' filing cabinet and indexes for the Tax Assessor's office which would cost.approximately $427000* Mr. Fletcher -explained to the Board that excess fees from his office from thrfflLear 1948 would maria than cover the purchase of said equipment., On motion of Commissioner Stewart seconded by Commissioner Helplings the forgoing 11request;to purchase said equipment was granted; heaver, the Board requested Mr. Fletche to ,retain his present type -writer for the future use of the officials of the Court House. Cory of She Hospital Association, called the meeting to order, mAde brief remarks as to the report of the ateeting and then turned the meeting over tb Secreta'ry B. G. Thatcher to' carry' on. Mr. Thatcher gave a brief or summary of the history of the old land present hospital; lJ4ewise, as to the hospital drive for raising funds to build a new ; ,`hospital. He stated the approximate cost for a forty bed hospital was $450,000.009 and that on a project of this amount the government would contribute $1499000,00; further hospital association had received to date from the hospital drive $1050000.00; therefore, a -remaining I' sum of up to $200,000.00 would he needed, and_ to hospital association together wjth the Board' of County Commissioners should try to determine ways and me no of financing the balance. Mr. Charles, A. Mitchell, .attorney for theboard stAted in- his opinion- there were two ways to obtain revenue for this purposes 1. Through a bots Issue and vote of the people; 2.
