The Board of Commissioners of the Solid Waste Disposal District (SWDD) met at the

2012. Present were Chairman Gary C. Wheeler, Vice Chairman Peter D. O'Bryan, and
Commissioners Wesley S. Davis, Joseph E Flescher, and Bob Solari. Also present were County

15.B.1. CONSTRUCTION & DEMOLITION PILOT PROGRAM UPDATE
Managing Director Himanshu Mehta, Solid Waste Disposal District, provided the Board
with background, analysis, and update on the Construction and Demolition (C&D) Pilot
Program. He recognized Republic Services (Republic) for making the effort to implement the
three-month C&D recycling pilot program on top of the active landfill, and their challenges in
recovering/marketing additional materials, despite it not being successful, and thereafter
discontinued. He said that staff did not recommend pursuing other alternatives for a C&D
recycling program at the landfill, and requested Board authorization to submit a letter to the
Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) requesting the removal of the landfill
permit condition since it is not a financially viable alternative for SWDD.
