BARTON Clerk to the Board �ORIO4' June 14 , 2011 SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL DISTRICT MEETING MINUTES The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, met in Regular Session at the County Commission Chambers , 1801 27th Street, Vero Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, June 14 ,2011 . Present were Chairman Bob Solari, Commissioners Wesley S . Davis , Joseph E . Flescher, and Peter D . O ' Bryan . Vice Chairman Gary C . Wheeler was absent. Also • present were County Administrator Joseph A . Baird, County Attorney Alan S . Polackwich, Sr. , and Deputy Clerk Leona Adair Allen , Chairman Solari called the meeting to order at 10 : 22 a. m . 15. B. LAPPROVAL OF MINUTES MEETING OFMAY3. 2011 The Chairman asked if there were any corrections or additions to the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 3 , 2011 . There were none . ON MOTION by Commissioner O ' Bryan, SECONDED by Commissioner Flescher, the Board by a 4-0 vote (Vice Chairman Wheeler absent) approved the Minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 3 , 2011 , as written. • June 14 , 2011 1EMN 141 PG 02-4 • 15. B. 2. REQUEST TO PARTICIPATE IN THE "GREENMARKET" AT INDL4NRIvER MALL Himanshu Mehta, Managing Director, Solid Waste Disposal District ( SWDD) , spoke about the upcoming opportunity to participate inthis summer ' s" Green Market, "an indoor market at the Indian River Mall that will promote SWDD , KIRB , recycling programs, the Reuse Center, and sustainability throughout the County . He informed the Board that the Mall would be providing the venue , event planning, equipment, maintenance , and marketing for the event. He also mentioned that staff supports the program, and that the $4 , 000 sponsorship fee would be made available through Sustainability programs . Vicki Wild , 419 12th Street, S . E . , Keep Indian River Beautiful (KIRB) , felt the Green Market would be a great opportunity for the County to give back to the local businesses by • advertising their products and generating revenue for the community, the County, KIRB , and the Indian River Mall . By having a Green Market in the Mall , visitors will be able see the many events that KIRB organizes, they will be able to drop off donations , pick-up reusable materials , and see how KIRB reuses items . She also believes the Green Market will help KIRB receive more volunteers and community support . Commissioner O ' Bryan wanted to know if the products sold at the Green Market -would be locally grown and/or made . He did not want to see imported trinkets sold as " local" items . Ursula Gunter, Indian River Mall Marketing Director, said that locally grown produce and products would be their number one priority but was uncertain if there would be enough of those items . She confirmed that KIRB would be managing the items sold at the Green Market to ensure they are local . • BK 14- 1 PC 0 2 5 June 14 , 2011 2 • ON MOTION by Commissioner Flescher, SECONDED by Commissioner Davis , the Board by a 4-0 vote (Vice Chairman Wheeler absent) authorized participation in the 2011 Green Market at the Indian River Mall with a sponsorship in the amount of $4 , 000 . 00 , as recommended in the memorandum of June 3 , 2011 . ALL BACKUP DOCUMENTATION, RESOLUTIONS, AND ORDINANCES ARE ON FILE IN THE OFFICE OF THE CLERK TO THE BOARD AND ARE HEREBY MADE A PART OF THESE MINUTES 16 .
