A letter was received from Charles C. Jewett, City Manager of Vero Beach,
requesting the Board to grant an easement to an area 20' x 20' for a necessary lift station
In connection with a proposed new sewer system, to relieve a very bad sdwageadisposal problem
in Brae Burn Park Subdivision. After consideration in the matter, the Board instructed
Douglas Baker, Clerk, to write a letter to Mr. Jewett advising that E. E. Carter, Road C
Bridge Superintendent had been instructed to contact Mr. Jewett in order that a location be
selected that would be acceptable to both parties and said location not to exceed 20' x 20'.
Also in connection with this matter a committee consisting of Commissioner U.arren, Attorney
Sherman N. Smith, Jr. and E. E. Carter, was appointed to contact Mr. Jewett with regard to
the foregoing proposal with the idea of working out a tie-in with the new propos.ed system for the
Sunshine Center School building.
There being no further business, on motion made, seconded and carried the Board
then adjourned until 9:00 o'clock A. M. Wednesday, October 13, 1954.

The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County, Florida, met at the
Courthouse at Vero Beach, Indian River County, Florida in a regular adjourned meeting at
9:00 o'clock... M. Wednesday, October 13, 1954, with the following members present: W. C.
Graves, Jr., Chairman, Aubrey L. Waddell, J. J. P. Hamilton and H. C. Watts. Also present
were E. E. Carter, Road & Bridge Superintendent, Sherman N. Smith, Jr., Attorney, and
Katherine Morrison, Deputy Clerk.
The following resolution was received from the Democratic Executive Committee
of Indian River County:

Be it hereby resolved by the members of the Indian River County Democratic
Committee at a special called meeting at two o'clock on Tuesday, October 12, 1954, Vero Beach,
Indian River County, Florida, for the purpose of selecting a democratic nominee for the office
of Sheriff of Indian River County, Florida.
Be it Resolved that the unanimous consent of the Committee for Democratic
Nominee for the office of sheriff of Indian River County shall be
S. D. Smith
Be it further resolved that copy of this Resolution be delivered personally
by the Secretary of the Indian River County democratic Committee to the Clerk of the Board
of County Commissioners as soon as possible and if said Clerk cannot be found, to any
Commissioner of Indian River County, Florida, informing them of the decision of the Democratic
Executive Committee and respectfully request that the Democratic nominee of Indian River
County, Florida, be duly placed on the ballot for election.

Upon Motion of Commissioner Hamilton, seconded by Commissioner Waddell, and
carried, the Board instructed the Clerk to have prepared the ballots for the election to be
held Tuesday, November 2, 1954, and the said ballots to include the office for sheriff of
Indian River County and to include the name of S. D. SMITH as the democratic nominee, and the
name of LARRY J. FINEGAN, as the republican nominee, and that a blank space be included for
the name or names of write-in candidates as provided by law.
There being no further business, on motion made, seconded and carried, the
Board then adjourned.
