THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS of Indian River County met at the Courthouse
at Vero Beach, Indian River County, in a regular adjourned meeting at 9:00 o'clock A. M.
Friday, February 17, 1956, with the following members present: Commissioners W. C. Graves, Jr.'.
J. J. P. Hamilton,--ubrey L. -Waddell and Allison Warren. Absent was H. C. Watts. Also
present were E. E. Carter, Road & Bridge Superintendent, George Heath. Attorney and Douglas
Baker, Clerk,
George Heath, Attorney was instructed to contact the United States Government
and accept their offer relating to 3.9 acres in Government Lot 1, Section 20, Tns. 32, Range
40, to be used as a public park on the beach.
Upon Motion of Commissioner Waddell, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton and
carried, the Board gave tentative approval to Health Land Subdivision on the South side of
t9alker Avenue.
It was moved by Commissioner Warren, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton and
carried that Attorney Smith be instructed to take the necessary steps to vacate and abandon
the old AIA right of way. This relates to the Bethel Isle Unit Al area.
Jimmy Anderson, Manager of Indian River Memorial Hospital, E. G. Thatcher and
Paul Goodridge of the hospital Board, Dr. Neil Miller, Director of the Indian River County
Health Department and Mrs. Anne Christensen, County Welfare Case Worker met with the Board
to discuss hospital service for indigents. After considerable discussion in the matter it
was decided that no action would be taken until after the hospital board had met in Marc} at
which time they would decide whether or not to continue with the county as they are now or
whether they wanted to go along with the State Hospitalization Indigent plan.
Motion was made by Commissioner Waddell, seconded by Commissioner Hamilton and
carried, that the county would pay the cost of returning John Blanton's wife to. Chattahoochee.
A -`committee consisting of Commissioner Waddell and Clerk Baker was appointed
to make arrangements for reservations for those going to the County Commissioners Convention
-1,
in Orlando. March 8, 9 and 10th.
There being no further business, on motion made, seconded and carried. the
Board then adjourned.
