Ms. Polly Kratman GeoSyntec Consultants
Indian River County
10 May 2006
Page 8
Piezometer Installation: Piezometers will be installed in four of the shallow borings and
the Rotosonic® deep boring to define the groundwater conditions at the site. The shallow
piezometers will be installed as clusters to monitor the groundwater conditions within the
upper and intermediate zones of the shallow aquifer system. The piezometer clusters are
proposed at locations around the perimeter of the expansion areas to allow for use as
groundwater monitoring points after the landfill expansion areas are in operation. The
Rotosonic® boring will be converted to a deep piezometer to assist in evaluating the head
difference between the upper and lower permeable zones . The piezometer clusters (four
total) will be sampled for laboratory analysis. Groundwater samples from the piezometers
will be analyzed for the parameters specified in Rule 62-701 . 510(6)(b), FAC (Initial
Background Ground Water Quality) plus sulfate, aluminum, and phenols in accordance
with Rule 62-701 .730(4)(a)5, FAC .
Geotechnical Laboratory Analyses: Laboratory analyses of the soil samples collected
during the field investigation program will be conducted at a qualified geotechnical testing
laboratory. Standard geotechnical laboratory procedures will be used to evaluate the index,
strength, compressibility, and hydraulic properties of the soils for the design of the landfill
expansion .
Hydrogeological Testing: Upon completion of installation and development of the
piezometers, groundwater level measurements will be collected from the newly installed
piezometers, and existing piezometers/monitoring wells . This information will be utilized
to evaluate aquifer types at the site and groundwater flow direction.
Field Surveying: Surveying services will be required to identify the locations and
elevations (horizontal and vertical control) of the test borings and piezometers. The survey
information will be referenced using the Florida State Plane Coordinate System (NAD83)
and the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29).
Public and Private Wells Survey: GeoSyntec will conduct a survey of all public and
private water supply wells within one-mile radius of the proposed expansion area [Rule 62-
701 .410( 1 )(b), FAC] by searching the available databases and contacting the appropriate
agencies. Also, a survey of all potable wells within 500 feet of the waste disposal area,
and locations of all wells serving community water supplies within 1 ,000 feet of the
proposed expansion footprint [Rule 62-701 .410(1 )(d), FAC] will be conducted . Well logs
and information on the average yield of these wells (if available) will be collected and
xI.0e09evw007o.aoc
