41 .4 .3 A CONTRACTOR performing trench excavation shall : <br /> (a) As a minimum, comply with the excavation standards that are applicable to a <br /> project. <br /> (b) Adhere to any special shoring requirements, if any, of the state or other <br /> political subdivisions that may be applicable to such a project. <br /> (c) If any geotechnical information is available, the CONTRACTOR performing <br /> trench excavation shall consider this information in the CONTRACTOR's <br /> design of the trench safety system that it will employ on the project. <br /> Nevertheless, the CONTRACTOR shall not depend on geotechnical <br /> information supplied by the COUNTY or ENGINEER for the trench safety <br /> system, but will conduct his/her own studies and investigations to satisfy any <br /> and all requirements for safety. This paragraph shall not require the <br /> ENGINEER or COUNTY to obtain geotechnical information or to provide <br /> any evaluations, judgments or other assessments concerning trench <br /> excavation or the trench safety system . <br /> 41 .4 .4 The cost of compliance with trench safety standards shall be included in the cost <br /> of all bid items that require trenching. <br /> 41 .5 Medical Emergencies. The criteria for designating a medical emergency and the <br /> procedures to be followed shall be specified by the CONTRACTOR. These <br /> procedures shall include local information relative to emergency treatment facilities <br /> and methods of transporting personnel if necessary . <br /> 41 .6 Hurricanes and Severe Storms. The CONTRACTOR shall monitor the NOAA <br /> marine weather broadcasts and other local commercial weather forecasting services <br /> during construction operations. The CONTRACTOR shall notify the COUNTY at <br /> the time of any decision to move equipment in preparation for potential storms. <br /> Section 42 of these Technical and Environmental Specifications includes information <br /> on harbors of refuge appropriate for useby the CONTRACTOR in the event of severe <br /> weather. The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for acquiring approval for the use <br /> of these safe harbors from local authorities and/or the U . S . Coast Guard . The <br /> CONTRACTOR shall include the following information in the hurricane and storm <br /> procedures : <br /> 41 .6 . 1 Weather Conditions for Terminating Operations. The CONTRACTOR shall <br /> provide a list of the equipment scheduled for use on this project and specify the <br /> conditions (e.g. wind speed, wave height, etc.) under which operations will be <br /> terminated and equipment will be secured. <br /> 41 .6 .2 Prioritized Methods for Storm Preparations. The CONTRACTOR shall provide a <br /> prioritized list of actions to be taken in the event of a severe storm and assign <br /> personnel to each action. The CONTRACTOR shall specify how each piece of <br /> equipment will be secured in place or moved to a safe harbor including the details of <br /> all equipment necessary (e.g., tugs: size, capacity; number; work boats: size, <br /> TECHNICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIFICATIONS Rev October 5 2007 TS-42 <br />
