meet the above criteria shall be rejected and shall not be incorporated into the work . <br /> Plants that have been rejected by the COUNTY shall be removed from the site by the <br /> CONTRACTOR at no cost to the COUNTY. <br /> 43 .4 Plants. For the purposes of this bid, the term "plant" refers to a hole into which at <br /> least 2 stems of an individual, viable, nursery grown plant of sea oats ( Uniola <br /> paniculata), dune panic grass (Panicum amarum), railroad vine (Ipomoea pes- <br /> caprae), and dune sunflower (Helianthus debifis) are installed. No otherplant species <br /> will be accepted as substitutes under this bid. <br /> 43 .5 Number of Seeds per Liner. The number of seeds placed in each liner will be <br /> determined through germination experiments by the CONTRACTOR such that <br /> deliverable, viable planting units with at least 2 emergent stems per liner are <br /> produced. Planting units with fewer than 2 viable stems will be rejected. <br /> 43 .6 Plant Size. Planting units shall be no less than 8 ", and no more than 16", in height, as <br /> measured from the top of the root ball to the apical meristem. Plants not meeting <br /> these size constraints will be rejected by the COUNTY. <br /> 43 .7 Plant Aee. Deliverable planting units shall be 90 days to 120 days old, as measured <br /> from the approximate time of germination. Planting units younger or older than this <br /> specification will be rejected by the COUNTY. <br /> 43 .8 Planting Unit Depth . All planting units shall be installed at a minimum depth of 6" , <br /> as measured from the top of the root ball to the sand surface. Plants not installed at or <br /> below this depth will be rejected by the COUNTY. <br /> 43 .9 Supervision of Plantine. The CONTRACTOR shall provide at least one person who <br /> shall be present at all times during the installation of the dune vegetation, who shall <br /> be thoroughly familiar with the species being installed and the best methods for their <br /> installation, and who shall direct all work performed under this section. <br /> 43 . 10Plantine Methodology. The CONTRACTOR shall lay out the work in 60-foot <br /> sections to ensure that the proper number of plants are planted in each section . The <br /> CONTRACTOR may attempt to achieve a natural look by not planting in straight <br /> rows and by modifying the spacing requirements t6 " for up to 20% of the plants in <br /> each zone. <br /> 43 . 11 Fertilization. Each plant used in the restoration project shall be fertilized at the time <br /> of planting with a controlled slow release granular type fertilizer such as Osmocote <br /> 14- 14- 14 or an equivalent approved by the COUNTY. Application of the fertilizer <br /> shall be in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. The fertilizer shall be <br /> incorporated and secured in the planting hole. <br /> 43 . 12 Irrigation. The CONTRACTOR shall supply adequate water for the establishment of <br /> all plantings.
