• <br />WEDNESDAY, MAY 11, 1966 <br />The Board of County Commissioners of Indian River County met <br />in regular session at the Courthouse, Vero Beach, Florida, on Wed- <br />nesday, May 11, 1966, at 8:30 o'clock A. M. Present were Robert <br />W. Graves, Chairman, D. B. McCullets, Jr,,Jerre J. Haffield, Donald <br />Macdonald and Dr. B. Q. Waddell. Also present were John H. Sutherland, <br />County Attorney, Edwin S. Schmucker, County Engineer, and Alfred H. <br />Webber and Ruth Elliott, Deputy Clerks. <br />The Chairman asked if there were any corrections or additions <br />to the minutes of April 6 and April 20, 1966. There were none <br />and on Motion by Commissioner Macdonald, seconded by Commissioner <br />McCullers and unanimously carried, that the minutes be approved as <br />written. <br />Mrs. Gladys Vigliano, County Welfare Worker, presented her report <br />for the month of April and same was placed on file. Mrs. Vigliano <br />requested permission to attend a special meeting of the Florida <br />Association of County Welfare Executives to be held in Clearwater <br />on May 12, 1966. On Motion by Commissioner McCullers, seconded by <br />Commissioner Hatfield, and unanimously carried, the request was granted. <br />Mr. Homer C. Fletcher, Tax Assessor, stated to the Board that the <br />shutdown of the Fellsmere Sugar Mill would have a great impact on the <br />economy of the City of Fellsmere and that interested citizens were <br />seeking some means to return to the active land market, lands which <br />reverted to the State of Florida under the Murphy Act. These lands <br />have not contributed anything to the tax economy of the County, State <br />City of Fellsmere or Fellsmere Drainage District for over thirty-five <br />years, Mr. Fletcher read a letter he had written to the Comptroller <br />and also the Comptroller's recommendation that proper resolutions be <br />adopted by governmental agencies requesting the Florida Development <br />Commission to conduct a seminar to deal with this particular problem. <br />Mr. Joe Bussey and lr.
