SECTION 02230 , <br /> GRADING <br /> PART 1 - GENERAL <br /> 1 . 1 SCOPE <br /> A . Furnish all material , labor, equipment , and supervision required to grade the areas <br /> shown on the Contract Drawings and specified herein . Where not specifically <br /> indicated , all disturbed areas shall receive as a minimum , finish grading , topsoil <br /> preparation , hydro-seeding , seed and mulch , or sod , as specified . <br /> PART 2 — MATERIALS — Not Used <br /> PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> 3 . 1 WORKMANSHIP <br /> A . FINISH GRADING - As soon as practical after completion of backfilling , rough grade <br /> the site . In areas to receive topsoil , the topsoil shall then be placed (4"-6" deep ) <br /> and worked to the finish grades as shown by hand shoveling and raking . For areas <br /> which will not receive sod , the finished grade shall vary no more than plus or minus <br /> 0 . 1 foot from the design elevation except the final grade adjacent to pavement , <br /> grates , or sidewalks shall match the edge of the pavement , grate , or sidewalk. In <br /> areas that will receive sod , the finished grade shall allow 2 to 3 inches for the <br /> thickness of the sod so that the new sod will match the existing sod , grates , <br /> pavement , walks , etc . All depressions (except those shown on the Drawings ) and <br /> other irregular surface features shall be eliminated . Round the tops of <br /> embankments and breaks in grade with a minimum radius of 6 feet . Slope all <br /> surfaces to drain , except designated retention/detention areas . Within 10 feet of r <br /> structures and paved areas , slope all surfaces to drain away at a minimum of 1 /4 <br /> inch per foot , unless shown otherwise on the Drawings or directed by the <br /> ENGINEER . All surfaces shall be free of roots , debris , and other deleterious <br /> material . Follow this procedure with one pass of a steel wheel roller weighing not <br /> more than 100 pounds per linear foot and not less than 25 pounds per linear foot . <br /> No power rolling will be permitted within 8 feet of any wall or structure . On slopes <br /> steeper than 4 : 1 , ram or tamp the topsoil into place , and " peg " the sod . <br /> B . DRAINAGE SWALES <br /> 1 . Hand -dress the swale in confined areas where equipment operation is <br /> restricted and as required to produce a well graded swale . <br /> 2 . Compact all swales by rolling to a firm , even surface which is true to grade <br /> and cross section . <br /> 02230- 1 02230 - Grading <br />
