resulting from the excavation shall be transplanted, relocated, braced, shored or <br /> otherwise protected and preserved unless otherwise directed by the Engineer. <br /> 2) Delivery and Receiving Pipe — The pipe shall be delivered no more than 5 working <br /> days prior to joining and installation. Pipe and fittings may be stored in the right-of- <br /> way, adjacent to the boring path in the right-of-way only when they may be <br /> maintained outside the roadway "clear zone" as determined by F .D . O .T. standards. <br /> Appropriate unloading and handling equipment of adequate capacity must be used to <br /> unload the truck. Safe handling and operating procedures must be observed. <br /> Pipe and fittings must not be rolled or pushed off the truck. <br /> When using a forklift, or forklift attachments on equipment such as articulated <br /> loaders or bucket loaders, lifting capacity must be adequate at the load center on the <br /> forks. Forklift equipment must be rated for the maximum lifting capacity at a <br /> distance from the back of the forks . <br /> Lifting equipment such as cranes, extension boom cranes, and side boom tractors, <br /> should be hooked to wide web choker slings that are secured around the load. Only <br /> wide web slings should be used. Wire rope slings and chains can damage <br /> components and shall not be used. Spreader bars shall be used when lifting pipe <br /> longer than 20' . <br /> Individual pipes may be stacked in rows . Pipes shall be laid straight, not crossing <br /> over or entangled with each other. The base row must be blocked to prevent <br /> sideways movement or shifting. The pipe sections shall be stacked no higher than 2 <br /> rows. <br /> B . Joining, Pive and Stub-End <br /> 1 ) Joining and stringing of the pipe shall be accomplished in one continuous operation. <br /> The joining shall begin promptly at the beginning of the work day and continue until <br /> completed. Pipe joining and directional boring shall be the only on-site operation <br /> allowed to continue beyond 5 : 00 P.M. The CONTRACTOR shall have all traffic <br /> control devices, lane closures and signage in place and ready for use prior to start- <br /> up . <br /> 2) Joining shall be accomplished using a hydraulically operated, microprocessor <br /> controlled heat fusing machine, specifically designed to handle the project pipe O.D . <br /> The operator shall have had a minimum 3 years experience in the process of <br /> operating H.D.P.E. butt-fusion machines capable of joining at least 8-inch diameter <br /> pipe. <br /> 3 ) Joining shall generally follow these procedures : <br /> a) Securing <br /> Each component that is to be fused must be held in position so that it will not <br /> move unless a clamping device moves it. <br /> 02400 — Directional Bore Crossings <br /> 02400 - 5 <br />
