SECTION 02511 <br />BASE COURSE <br />PART 1 - GENERAL <br />1.1 SCOPE <br />A. The work specified in this Section consists of the construction of a base course <br />composed of limerock constructed on prepared subgrade in accordance with these <br />Specifications and in conformity with the lines, grades, notes, and typical cross <br />sections shown on the Contract Drawings. <br />PART 2 - MATERIALS <br />2.1 MATERIALS <br />A. All limerock shall comply with Section 911 "Limerock Material for Base and <br />Stabilized Base" or Section 915 "Cemented Coquina Shell Material of the DOT's <br />Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction latest edition. All <br />limerock used on the project shall be of the same grade and from the same source. <br />Be The cemented coquina shell material shall have a minimum LBR of 100. <br />Co Before placement, 97 percent of the material shall pass a 3A/2 inch sieve and it <br />shall be graded uniformly down to dust. <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />3.1 DUMPING AND SPREADING <br />A. Transport the limerock to the point where it is to be used over rock previously <br />placed, and dump on the end of the last spread. In no case shall rock be dumped <br />directly on the subgrade. <br />Be Base material shall not be placed until the stabilized subgrade has passed all <br />required compaction testing and been approved by the Engineer or his authorized <br />representative. <br />C. Spread the limerock uniformly. Remove and replace all segregated areas of fine or <br />coarse rock with well -graded rock. <br />D. When the specified compacted thickness of the base is greater than 6 inches, <br />construct the base in two courses.
