SECTION 02514 <br />GATE VALVES <br />PART 1 -SCOPE <br />1.01 GENERAL <br />The work to be performed under this item shall include furnishing and installing gate valves as <br />specified by the Engineer and as shown on the Plans. <br />1.02 REFERENCES <br />Standards applicable in this Specification shall be: <br />A. American Water Works Association (AWWA) <br />1. AWWA Cl l l-80 - Rubber -Gasket Joints for Ductile Iron and Gray -Iron Pressure Pipe <br />and Fittings. <br />2. AWWA C509-87 - Resilient -Seated Gate Valves for Water and Sewerage Systems. <br />B. American Society of Testing and Material (ASTM) <br />1. ASTM A126-84 - Gray -Iron Castings for Valves, Flanges and Pipe fittings. <br />1.03 SUBMITTALS <br />A. Shop Drawings - Prior to any fabrication or installation work, the Contractor shall <br />furnish to the Engineer, for review and approval five (5) sets of shop drawings for the <br />following items. All drawings shall be reviewed, approved and stamped by the Contractor <br />pursuant to the provisions of the General Conditions. <br />1. Gate Valve <br />2. Valve Box <br />PART 2 - MATERIAL <br />2.01 GATE VALVES (SIZES 4" TO 12") <br />Gate valves shall be of the solid wedge type with resilient seats. Gate valves shall be mechanical <br />jointed and meet the requirements of AWWA C509-87. <br />Valves shall be iron bodied, bronze mounted, utilizing "O-ring" seals. Resilient seat shall be applied <br />to the gate and shall seal against an epoxy coated metallic surface. <br />The stem shall be of the non -rising type, operated by a standard AWWA, 2 -inch wrench nut. All <br />valves shall open to the left, using a counterclockwise motion. The stem shall be sealed with a dual "O- <br />ring" system designed such that the seal above the stem collar can be replaced with the valve <br />under pressure in the fully open position. <br />02514 — Gate Valves <br />02514-1 <br />
