SECTION 02520 <br />ASPHALTIC CONCRETE PAVEMENT <br />PART 1 - GENERAL <br />1.1 SCOPE <br />A. The work consists of the construction of an asphaltic surface course composed of a <br />mixture of aggregate mineral filler (if necessary) and asphalt cement to produce the <br />desired stability hereinafter described, properly laid and compacted upon a <br />prepared base, or an existing surface course in accordance with these <br />Specifications and in conformity with the lines, grades, thickness and typical cross <br />section shown on the Contract Drawings. <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.1 PRODUCTS <br />A. The asphaltic concrete pavement shall be type S-1 and conform with Section 334, <br />of the Florida Department Of Transportation Specifications for Road and Bridge <br />Construction (hereinafter referred to as the FDOT Specifications).The following are <br />exceptions to the FDOT Specification Section 334: <br />1. In Section 334-1.1 for 330-8.5 where referenced via Section 300, substitute <br />Section 02518, <br />2. Except 330-12.5.2 <br />3, Except RAP will not be used as a mix component <br />4. Except 334-7 and 334-8 <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />3.1 LIMITATIONS OF LAYING OPERATIONS <br />A. Apply the asphaltic concrete only when the temperature in the shade is 50 degrees <br />Fahrenheit and rising. The CONTRACTOR may lay bituminous mixtures which <br />have been rained upon in transit, at CONTRACTOR's risk. However, if local <br />conditions indicate that rain is imminent, no work shall be started. Under no <br />circumstances shall the mixture be laid while it is raining, or when there is water on <br />the base. If the wind is blowing such that sand, dust, etc. are being deposited on <br />the surface being paved to the extent that the bond between layers will be reduced, <br />the asphalt shall not be spread on the surface. <br />B.
