Slumps should be maintained so as not to exceed 2 thm 4 -1/2 inches for non - <br />vibratory placement and 1 thru 3 inches for vibrated placement. <br />CONSTRUCTION JOINT MATERIALS <br />Joint construction and sealing materials shall be as follows: <br />A. Sheet metal bottom strips for expansion joints shall be galvanized sheet metal of 0.0157 - <br />inch (30 gauge) minimum thickness, conforming to ASTM A525. <br />B. Preformed Joint Filler shall be of the cellulose fiber type, conforming to AASHTO - M 213. <br />Material shall be of the "Sealtight" line as manufactured by W.R. Meadows, or approved equal. <br />C. Preformed Elastomeric Seals shall be of the open cell compression type, conforming to the <br />Florida D.O.T. Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, 2006 <br />Edition, Section 932, <br />D. Bond Breaker Rod shall be closed cell, expanded polyethylene foam rods conforming to the <br />Florida D.O.T. Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, 2006 <br />Edition, Section 932. <br />E. Liquid Joint Sealant shall be: a hot — applied, polymeric sealing compound conforming to <br />AASHTO - M 173. Material shall be "Sealtight" #164 as manufactured by W.R. Meadows; a <br />low modulus, one part silicone sealant; or approved equal conforming to the Florida D.O.T. <br />Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, 2006 Edition, Section 932, <br />CONCRETE CURING MATERIALS <br />A. Membrane Curing Compounds for concrete shall be the pigmented type conforming to the <br />requirements of AASHTO — M 148 (Type 2), conforming to the Florida D.O.T. Standard <br />Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, 2006 Edition, Section 925. <br />B. Polyethylene Film may be used for curing when, in conjunction with protection of the pavement <br />from inclement weather, the polyethylene film is applied over the entire pavement and <br />maintained intact for a minimum of three (3) days. Polyethylene film and it's use shall conform <br />to the Florida D.O.T. Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, 2006 <br />Edition, Section 925, <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION OF WORK <br />3.01 SUBGRADE PREPARATION <br />A. The bottom of the excavation for the concrete pavement or top of the earth fill under the <br />pavement shall be known as the pavement subgrade and shall conform to the lines, grade and <br />cross sections shown on the plans. <br />B. The subgrade shall be placed or prepared upon ground which has been cleared, grubbed and, if <br />necessary, demucked. If the subgrade is upon a filled embankment, the fill material shall be free <br />from all unsuitable materials such as muck, rubbish, stumps, brush, clay pockets, etc. which <br />will not compact into stable and durable foundation for the subgrade.
