be repaired by setting side forms and replacing eroded concrete. After the side forms are
set, fresh concrete shall be placed and finished prior to texturing and curing. After the
pavement has hardened, remedial work shall not be permitted. Areas that do not comply
with these Specifications shall be corrected after the curing period has terminated.
3.05 CURING
A. After finishing operations have been completed and immediately after the free water has
left the surface, the surface of the slab and, for slip formed pavements, the sides of the slab
shall be coated and sealed with a uniform layer of membrane curing compound applied at the
rate of not less than one gallon per 200 square feet of surface. When the forms are removed,
curing compound shall be applied to the sides of the slab.
B. Areas in which the curing membrane is damaged within a period of three (3) days shall be
resprayed with curing compound.
3.06 EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION JOINTS
A. Traverse and longitudinal joints shall be constructed to the dimensions and at the spacing shown.
on the Drawings or at maximum 10 foot intervals. Transverse joints shall extend the entire width
of the pavement and through the curbs. Joints may be formed in the plastic concrete or sawed after
the concrete has hardened.
B. Formed joints may be constructed by installing a parting strip to be left in place or by depressing
an approved tool into the plastic concrete.
C. Sawing of
joints shall begin as soon as the concrete has hardened sufficiently to permit
sawing
without excessive raveling and before
uncontrolled cracking occurs. If necessary, the
sawing
operations
shall be carred on both day
and night, regardless of weather conditions.
D. Where construction methods require joint seaing, all joints shall be sealed before the pavement
is exposed to traffic, including construction traffic. Prior to sealing, all foreign material
shall be removed from the joints and the joints shall be thoroughly dry.
3.07 CONSTRUCTION JOINTS
All longitudinal joints maybe construction joints at the contractor's option. Transverse construction
joints shall be installed whenever the placing of concrete is suspended a sufficient length of time that
the concrete may harden.
3.08 FINAL ACCEPTANCE
A. Before the pavement will be considered for acceptance, all items shall be completed in substantial
accordance with the Plans and Specifications. All equipment, surplus materials, and construction
debris shall be removed from the project.
B. The pavement shall be closed to traffic after the concrete is placed, until 28 day test cylinders
indicate the section has reached the specified compressive strength under ordinary field
conditions.
END OF SECTION
02752 — Concrete Paving
02752- 7
