be repaired by setting side forms and replacing eroded concrete. After the side forms are <br /> set, fresh concrete shall be placed and finished prior to texturing and curing. After the <br /> pavement has hardened, remedial work shall not be permitted. Areas that do not comply <br /> with these Specifications shall be corrected after the curing period has terminated. <br /> 3 . 05 CURING <br /> A . After finishing operations have been completed and immediately after the free water has <br /> left the surface, the surface of the slab and, for slip formed pavements, the sides of the slab <br /> shall be coated and sealed with a uniform layer of membrane curing compound applied at the <br /> rate of not less than one gallon per 200 square feet of surface. When the forms are removed, <br /> curing compound shall be applied to the sides of the slab . <br /> B . Areas in which the curing membrane is damaged within a period of three (3) days shall be <br /> resprayed with curing compound. <br /> 3 .06 EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION JOINTS <br /> A . Traverse and longitudinal joints shall be constructed to the dimensions and at the spacing shown. <br /> on the Drawings or at maximum 10 foot intervals. Transverse joints shall extend the entire width <br /> of the pavement and through the curbs. Joints may be formed in the plastic concrete or sawed after <br /> the concrete has hardened. <br /> B . Formed joints may be constructed by installing a parting strip to be left in place or by depressing <br /> an approved tool into the plastic concrete. <br /> C . Sawing of joints shall begin as soon as the concrete has hardened sufficiently to permit sawing <br /> without excessive raveling and before uncontrolled cracking occurs . If necessary, the sawing <br /> operations shall be carried on both day and night, regardless of weather conditions. <br /> D. Where construction methods require joint seaing, all joints shall be sealed before the pavement <br /> is exposed to traffic, including construction traffic . Prior to sealing, all foreign material <br /> shall be removed from the joints and the joints shall be thoroughly dry. <br /> 3 .07 CONSTRUCTION JOINTS <br /> All longitudinal joints maybe construction joints at the contractor's option. Transverse construction <br /> joints shall be installed whenever the placing of concrete is suspended a sufficient length of time that <br /> the concrete may harden. <br /> 3 .08 FINAL ACCEPTANCE <br /> A. Before the pavement will be considered for acceptance, all items shall be completed in substantial <br /> accordance with the Plans and Specifications. All equipment, surplus materials, and construction <br /> debris shall be removed from the project. <br /> B . The pavement shall be closed to traffic after the concrete is placed, until 28 day test cylinders <br /> indicate the section has reached the specified compressive strength under ordinary field <br /> conditions. <br /> END OF SECTION <br /> 02752 — Concrete Paving <br /> 02752- 7 <br />
