On Motion by Commissioner Macdonald, seconded by Commissioner <br />Bogosian, the following Resolution was unanimously adopted: <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />67-18 <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners considers that the <br />preservation of the estuarine resources of the Indian River in this County, <br />together with their considerate use and enjoyment by the public, is vital to <br />the long term social and economic interests of the citizens of this County; an• <br />WHEREAS, all of these resources are seen to be in constant <br />danger from increasing pressure of encroachments; and, <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners desires to cooper- <br />ate with the Secretary of the Interior toward justifying the establishment for <br />this area of a desired U. S. Fish and Wildlife visitors center to promote <br />public and business enjoyment of sound conservation measures; Now, there- <br />fore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Indian <br />River County, Florida, that, as proposed in a recent Wilderness Area Study <br />of the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife, this Board recommends that <br />the federally owned islands of the Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge be <br />included also in the National Wilderness Preservation System for added pro- <br />tection and devotion to public purposes; and, <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolu- <br />tion be forwarded to the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife, U. S. <br />Department of the Interior, 809 Peachtree -Seventh Building, Atlanta, <br />Georgia 30323, and that the Chairman arrange for the presentation of this <br />Resolution to the hearing officer at a public hearing which the Bureau has <br />called on its Study, Wednesday, April 5, 1967, at the New Community <br />Building of Vero Beach. <br />s <br />t <br />0114R 2 2 1967 <br />!
