East C ifford QAPP
Section B
Revision No .
Date : 3/ 16/05
Group B — DATA GENERATION AND ACQUISITION
131 . Sampling Process Design ( Experimental Design )
Two types of stormwater samples will be taken : pre-construction and post-
construction . The requirements of Chapter 62-302 , April 9 , 2002 version of the
SOPs will be met for field and analytical activities . For each pre- and post-
construction sampling event , the samples will be tested for the following
parameters :
Field Measurements
1 . Temperature
2 . pH
3 . Salinity
4 , Dissolved Oxygen
Laboratory Analyses
5 , Total Kjeldahl Nitrogen
6 , Nitrate- N , Nitrite- N
7 , Ammonia- N
8 , Total Phosphorus
9 , Color
10 . Biochemical Oxygen Demand ( BOD )
11 . Total Suspended Solids (TSS )
12 . Alkalinity
The pre-construction stormwater grab samples will be manually taken within the
first hour of a storm event . The storm event will be defined as one in which
rainfall is within 50 % of the average rainfall in the area . The sample will be taken
from an area upstream of the proposed stormwater pond . This is the best
location to take the pre-construction samples because the project area does not
have an existing drainage system and therefore , stormwater runoff ponds in this
location until it percolates or evaporates .
The post-construction samples will be composite samples taken by utomatic
stormwater samplers during or immediately after rainfall events . Or e automatic
sampler will be installed near the detention pond inlet pipe and the other will be
installed near the pond ' s overflow weir. Each automatic sampler will be activated
based on a rise in water depth in the lake . Once activated , the samplers will take
flow-weighted samples at fifteen - minute intervals , for twenty-four hours , Rainfall
data will be collected onsite with an associated rain gauge and compared against
rainfall data obtained from the nearest weather station . However, if the lake
depth drops to a predetermined level within four hours after initiating% sampling ,
F :\Public Works\KeithM\Stormwater Projects\Gifford East\Water Quality Monitoring Program\Quality Assurance Project Plan\DEP
QAPP East Gifford Revision 3- 16-2005. doc
