East Gifford QAPP
Section B
Revision No .
Date : 3/ 16/05
the samplers will shut off, since this will indicate a non -significant ra nfall event .
All sampling intake points will be located near the influent pipe oreffluent weir
(within ten to fifteen feet) , as applicable , and approximately mid -de th in the
water column .
The sample locations are shown on Figure A . 2
Pre-construction sampling will consist of three separate rainfall events (grab
samples ) . Post-construction sampling will consist of six separate rainfall events
(composite samples ) .
All of the parameters that will be measured are for information . Since this project
is a stormwater system retrofit , there is no critical parameter of concern . The
purpose of the stormwater sampling is to determine the pollution removal
effectiveness of the constructed stormwater system .
B2 . Sampling Methods Requirements
62 . 1 Sample Collection Procedures and Methods
Pre-construction stormwater samples will be collected manually . O le grab
sample will be collected for each rainfall event measured . All samp es will be
collected from a representative pool of stormwater ( mid depth ) and ill be
collected in a large plastic container suitable for such sampling . Th a. sampling
container will be properly decontaminated before each sampling evi nt .
Automatic stormwater samplers will collect post-construction composite samples .
Each automatic sampler will be equipped with a large plastic sample container
that is properly cleaned before each sampling event . The automatic samplers
will be programmed to take a flow-weighted sample every fifteen minutes . Once
activated , each sampler will draw the flow-weighted sample through a Teflon
tube , into its sample container every 15 minutes for approximately s x hours or
until at least 4 , 800mL is collected . The composite sample containers will be
thermally preserved during the collection process , then the composi a jug will be
stirred and siphoned into lab-supplied bottles that have been properly chemically
preserved , and the samples will be transported to the laboratory on ce in order
to ensure proper preservation .
The requirements of Chapter 62 -302 , April 9 , 2002 version of the S Ps will be
met for field and analytical activities .
B2 . 2 Equipment Needed for Sampling
1 . Pre-Construction — Large plastic sampling container with lid , small battery
operated pump with Teflon or plastic suction and discharge tubing .
F :\Public Works\KeithM\Stormwater Projects\Gifford East\Water Quality Monitoring Program\Quality Assurance Project Plan\DEP
QAPP East Gifford Revision 3- 16-2005.doc
