Turf consists of planted grasses in accordance with Section <br /> 570 . Vegetation consists of planted and natural grasses , weeds , and other natural vegetation <br /> within the area to be mowed . <br /> 107-2 Operation . <br /> 107-2 . 1 Frequency : Begin litter removal and mowing when directed by the Engineer. <br /> Continue per the mowing frequency stated in the plans unless directed otherwise by the Engineer <br /> until final acceptance in accordance with 5 - 11 . Mow all areas to obtain a uniform height of <br /> 6 inches . <br /> After final acceptance , perform litter removal and mowing until new turf is <br /> established in accordance with 5704 at no cost to the Department . Maintain turf and vegetation <br /> height between 6 and 12 inches . Do not include seed stalk or wildflowers when measuring <br /> height. <br /> Perform litter removal prior to and in conjunction with mowing; however, the <br /> Engineer may direct litter pickups in addition to those performed in conjunction with mowing . <br /> Do not mow new turf until a healthy root system is established . In designated <br /> wildflower areas , avoid cutting wildflowers when in bloom and when re- seeding. <br /> 107-2 . 2 General : Mow shoulders and medians concurrently so that not more than one <br /> mile will be left partially mowed at the conclusion of the working day. Mow turf and vegetation <br /> on slopes or around appurtenances concurrent with the mowing operation . <br /> In areas saturated with standing water, mow or cut to the surface of the water <br /> using hand labor or other specialized equipment when standard equipment will cause damage . <br /> Do not remove turf or other vegetation cuttings from the right-of-way, or rake or <br /> pick up the cuttings unless the cuttings are in the traveled ways , bike lanes , or sidewalk; are <br /> obstructing drainage structures ; or are the result of cleaning the equipment. <br /> 107-2 .3 Limitations : Maintain traffic in accordance with Section 102 . When mowing <br /> within four feet of a travel lane, operate the equipment in the same direction of traffic , unless the <br /> adjacent lane is closed to traffic due to construction operations . <br /> Perform all work during daylight hours . <br /> 107-2 .4 Disposal of Litter and Debris : During each litter removal cycle , bag and <br /> remove all litter or piles at the end of each working day. Dispose of litter in accordance with <br /> applicable local and state laws . Do not store or stockpile litter within the project limits . <br /> 107-3 Method of Measurement. <br /> For each Litter Removal cycle , the quantity to be paid will be the area, in acres , from <br /> which litter has been picked up , removed, and disposed, completed and accepted . The quantity <br /> will be determined by calculation using the lengths and widths based on the station to station <br /> dimensions shown in the plans . <br /> For each Mowing cycle, the quantity to be paid will be the area, in acres, of mowing, <br /> completed and accepted .
