Farr, Jr., Pastor <br />RESOLUTION • <br />The Council on 2-.inistries of the Asbury United <br />Methodist Church, Vero Beach, Florida, believes <br />all people should take seriously the mandates <br />ofthe Holy ScrinGures regarding our concern for <br />poor people. Our Lord expressly states-, .olesseti <br />are you poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God. <br />Blessed are you that hunger now, for you shall be <br />satisfied Woe to you that are full now, for <br />you shall hunger" (Luke 6:20, 21 and 25)• <br />Furt?:ermore our Lord told us in the parable of <br />the Rich I`ian and Lazarus that we who are affluent <br />should not, find cannot, neglect our brother who <br />is in need ..(Luke 16:19 through 31)„ wasshungryea king <br />of the last judgment, Jesus said, I <br />and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you <br />gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did no <br />welcome me, naked and you•did not clothe me, <br />sick <br />and in prison and you did not visit me .•• <br />As you <br />did it not to one of the least of these you it <br />not to me" (Luke 25:42f)• With these types of <br />direct references to our concern for people in need <br />we not only feel that we should be benevolent in <br />a personal way, but that every power that <br />God <br />astical, <br />given us, whether it be governmental, <br />economic or technological, should be utilized to <br />remove those conditions which rob men of their dignity <br />as His children. <br />THE- ORj BE I'2 RESOj.V.D BY THE COU <br />NNCIL ON PmINISTRIES <br />OF ASBURY UNITED :?ETfiODIST CHURCH OF VERO BEACH, <br />FLORIDA, in re�.uler meeting assembled, that we do <br />respectively request that the City Council.of the <br />City of Vero Beach, and the Board of County <br />Commissioners of Indian River County, immediately, <br />take the -steps necessary to establish with their <br />respective jurisdiction a housing authority. <br />February 22, 1971 <br />W <br />L— NjAP ' n 1971 <br />i� <br />
