• r <br />i <br />ORDINANCE NO. 87 - <br />This Ordinance is adopted pursuant to the authority <br />granted the Board of County Commissioners of Indian River <br />County under the home rule power granted in the Florida Consti- <br />tution and Chapter 125 of the Florida Statutes, for the purpose <br />of providing a uniform road addressing system for buildings and <br />structures on public and private roads in Indian River County. <br />Sec. 18-57. Definitions. <br />For the purpose of this article, the following terms and <br />words are defined as follows: <br />(a) Accessory building: a building which is clearly inci- <br />dental or subordinate to and customarily in association with a <br />principal building and which is located on the same lot with <br />said principal building. <br />(b) Building: any permanent structure designed or built for <br />the support, enclosure, shelter or protection of persons, <br />animals, chattels or property of any kind, including residen- <br />tial, commercial and industrial buildings, but excluding <br />accessory buildings. <br />(c) Building front: that area of the building which faces the <br />public or private road by which the building was numbered. <br />(d) Basic grid system.0 a series of designated parallel lines <br />one mile apart, intersecting a second set of designated paral- <br />lel lines one mile apart forming approximately one square mile <br />areas (also known as sections). <br />(e) Grid numbering system: a uniform method of assigning and <br />coordinating the addresses of building and properties <br />based on a designated grid system. <br />
